Sad news here and I’m baffled and still completely in shock by what happened considering I’m doing what I’ve always done

Just went to do my biweekly tadpole upkeep and found them ravaged by a mold/fungus.. out of 60-70 only 4 survived and the only clutch I had waiting in the wings.. so Simply Southern Darts has taken a severe hit to say the least… pretty devastating to see all the little frog bodies that were just about ready to be moved to tilted cups… 😢💔rip lil froggies
These are the remaining survivors.. Mea olas

Started completely fresh .. transitioned to 4 different containers of water before moving to the tadpole condos to make sure they weren’t bringing anything contaminated
But honestly I’m feeling pretty defeated.. I’m considering stopping pulling clutches and just letting nature work its course.. this hurts!

Sooo….I’m making these cork bark ledges. They can be small, medium, or on the larger side and come with the option to add several different types of moss. This is actually mortifying because I’m so damn awkward at speaking.. it’s almost comical how awful it is…but it’s for a REALLY, REALLY AMAZING cause!!! I believe so strongly in this cause that it is listed in my will. So if you are looking for a worthy, incredible organization to donate to, look no further!!

Even though the colors are drab, I think it’s beautiful!😍
We gave it some yummy wax worms as a nice treat he has probably never had and released him where he picked him up.

It’s a Southern Leopard frog. The Northern Leopard Frog is actually on the endangered species list.. but the Southern’s conservation status is stable. It is known for screaming in a trill, startling, screech when it feels threatened so Lockwood got quite the scare when he picked him up. He also had a rough time actually catching it.. these guys are known for being loooong jumpers!

Update…..

Here’s what is happening with my SLS froglet who I named Mea Ola.. which is Hawaiian for survivor.. nothing like getting attached to something that has a small chance of making it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve actually moved him to a very small grow out bin with leaf litter, coco husk, and a teeny bit of sphagnum, a few plant clippings, moss, calcium bearing clay and loaded with spring tails.. he’s climbed the side of the bin and actually eaten some spring tails.. so there’s no way I’m going to do it now, I’ll just wait and do it if his quality of life is suffering.

For now, I’m doing a treatment that someone else had positive results with on 2 frogs.. I’ve already started the calcium gluconate and I’ll have the liquid vitamins here later tomorrow..

Based on the consensus from my previous post…I’ll use orajel.. and don’t plan on wearing gloves anytime soon😂🤣😝

It’s me again with more questions about euthanising my SLS froglet..
I’ve come to terms with what I have to do but I can’t smash it… I’ve been researching all night and it sounds like the best, most feasible option is to use Clove Oil..
I’d appreciate any input or advice on this method or something else that you think is best. I thought about taking it to the vet for them to do it but I can’t really swing a vet bill right now. Also, I’m against freezing/boiling it as well. And obviously the good stuff, that anesthesizes fish is only available to veterinarians.

Here’s an update on the 6 tadpoles that I posted a week ago of their transformation from egg to tadpoles… I keep them in a tackle box/toy compartment box in distilled water using Indian almond leaf extract, crumpled leaves, and some moss I got from NCDartFrogs
I feed them 3 xs per week food I get from Houston Frogs and Sera Micron fry food.
I suck out the yuck with a little dropper once a week and change the water every 3 weeks.

It’s roughly a bit bigger than a flea, is hard but when you smoosh it in your fingers, it crumbles instead of smooshing like most bugs
