. Hours of Operation:
Mon-Thur 8am - 7pm, Fri 8am-6pm, and Saturday 8am-2pm. Regular wellness exams are vital to monitor and maintain your pet's health. We recommend a postpurchase consultation as soon as possible after bringing a new pet into the home so that we can ensure that you are providing your new family member with the proper diet, care, and habitat. Often, owners wait until there is a visible issue of concern before bringing their pet for a checkup. Avian and exotic pets are innately skilled at hiding any signs of illness or weakness until they have depleted their bodies' resources and are gravely ill. Regular wellness exams allow us to note any change in weight, behavior or condition and to correct problems before they become life-threatening. Regular bloodwork, radiographs and other diagnostics allow us to monitor the internal organs to ensure that they are functioning properly and to detect illness well before external symptoms manifest. In addition to annual and 6-month physical exams, we offer behavioral consultation for pets that are having issues such as screaming, biting, or aggressive, defensive or antisocial behaviors. We offer prepurchase consultations to ensure that you are selecting the right kind of pet for you, your family, and your situation.

🐍 Case Study: Inclusion Body Disease (IBD)

Inclusion Body Disease is a transmissive and progressive disease that affects captive boas and pythons. It is suspected to originate with a virus. No treatment is available, so unfortunately, this disease is fatal.

Pictured above - both red and white blood cells develop these inclusions that we suspect impair their function. The infection causes disease to all parts of the body, likely due to immunosuppression, since without functional cells, the body cannot function properly.

This particular owner has a collection of snakes, and had already attempted multiple rounds of treatment. We did make the decision to proceed with end of life care, in the best interest of the animal and the other snakes in their care. ❤️‍🩹

🐰 We are obsessed with this Rex rabbit and the Rex wrinkles! Luckily, he came in for a wellness visit as an established patient so we were able to catch it before it got any worse. Preventive medicine is 🔑.

🦷 This little one had to have major dental surgery as quite a few teeth had to be removed. Rabbits can acquire dental disease, for a multitude of reasons, just like many other companion pets. He will need help with syringe feeding for likely the next week or so, but hopefully will make a smooth recovery after that.

⚠️ GRAPHIC! This native red fox is being rehabbed by a USDA licensed rehabber. This is a wild animal that we are hoping can be released after recovery. If not, she will live out her life in a sanctuary with other foxes. ⚠️

🦊 Have you ever seen a sweeter patient? This juvenile, female, red fox presented for assessment of a limb injury. It is suspected she was caught in a trap meant to catch an individuals rouge chickens…

🩻 Radiographs revealed severe infection and major bone loss, leading to our recommendation of a full limb amputation. Since we took the whole leg, the procedure and recovery is rather straightforward. Stitches will absorb over time, patient is on pain meds and antibiotics! We are so hoping she is a candidate for release in the future.

💵 Thank you to all the volunteers and folks that donated to make this happen. We are grateful to be able to help.

🦝 This juvenile raccoon was “rehabbed” as a baby and released back onto a large private property when he was old enough. Only about a week later, the man who raised the patient noticed a puncture wound on his right rear foot. The wound continued to fester and was only getting worse, so he decided to get treatment for his little buddy.

⚠️ As you all know, we cannot and do not recommend attempting to rehab, keep, own, a wild animal. It is dangerous, illegal in many states, and care is expensive. However, we appreciate being here for those in need, and appreciate folks that have good intentions to help an innocent animal.

🩺 The patient was sedated upon arrival, radiographs and a culture of the wound was performed in order to identify what the bacteria is susceptible to. Over the last few weeks, since it is nearly impossible to give him oral medications at home, we have been treating him with injectable antibiotics and pain medications. The wound appears to be improving! We will continue to give antibiotics until fully healed.

🐰 Gut stasis 🐰
Did you know that gut stasis is not actually a disease, it is a symptom that can indicate another problem. These are some examples of causes of gut stasis (although there are many more).

Some underlying causes are more serious than others, however if your rabbit stops eating this is ALWAYS an emergency, and always requires a vet visit the same day. This is because (regardless of the cause) gut stasis is painful, and can be fatal. Your rabbit will require a clinical exam, and at a minimum pain relief. Your vet may also advise fluids, hospitalisation and imaging and/or bloods to investigate further.

The Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund have some useful information on their website: rabbitwelfare.co.uk/gut-slowdown/

🦔 Sweet little hedgie came in to assess bleeding from her va**na. We determined rather quickly that it was a reproductive issue, and a tumor had grown off her uterus. We had to move into emergency surgery to remove the tumor. She did well for the procedure - this is her afterwards munching on some food. She does still have a long way to go in recovery.

🩺 We cannot stress enough the importance of exotic pet preventative care - including spay and neuter for many of our beloved species. If done preventively, the patient has much less of a risky recovery, and would not have to deal with these tumors in the first place. We are wishing her a smooth recovery. 🤍
