Holiday Closure Announcement 🎄

In observance of Christmas, our hospital will be closing on Christmas Eve, December 24th at 12pm and will remain closed on Christmas Day, December 25th. We’ll reopen on December 26th to resume regular hours. Please plan ahead for any pet needs, such as food or medication pickups, before the holiday!

Staff Highlight!

Meet Becca!
Becca joined the Palmetto Veterinary Hospital family in 2018. She initially started as a receptionist, but has made the transition to veterinary assistant. Originally from Indiana, Becca has lived in Charleston since 2001. When she isn't here helping to care for our patients, you can find Becca taking in a football game or spending time with her husband, four adult children, her rescue horse, duck, goose, cat, and 6 pups.

Meet Jillian!
Hailing from Pennsylvania originally, Jillian has been a member of the Palmetto Veterinary Hospital family since 2021 and is our fabulous Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT). In her free time, you can often find her on the beach collecting shark teeth or fishing in one of her favorite spots. Jillian is mama to her pocket bully, Pyper Jo, and her two cats, Tips & Gabe.

🌟Staff Highlight🌟

Meet Jenny!
Part of the Palmetto Veterinary Hospital family for 21 years, Jenny has over 30 years experience as a veterinary technician. When not helping to care of our patients, you can find Jenny on her farm tending to her two dogs, one cat, four Nigerian Dwarf goats, and four chickens. She is also the founder of Chubby Dog Nation, an online tool to help owners manage the weight of their canine companions. In addition to the menagerie of critters at the farm, Jenny enjoys spending time with her husband and son.

Pet Diabetes Awareness 🐾🩺

Did you know? November is Pet Diabetes Awareness Month! Here are some important facts to keep your furry friends healthy:

🔹 Diabetes in pets is more common than you think, affecting 1 in every 300 dogs and 1 in every 230 cats.
🔹 Symptoms to watch for: increased thirst, frequent urination, weight loss despite a good appetite, and lethargy.
🔹 Early detection is key! With proper management, including insulin therapy, a healthy diet, and regular vet visits, diabetic pets can lead happy lives.
🔹 Pets are more likely to develop diabetes if they’re overweight, older, or have a genetic predisposition.

If you notice any of these signs, schedule a check-up with your vet right away!

Staff Highlight!

Meet our Practice Manager, Hanna! Originally from Central Florida, Hanna recently moved to the Charleston area in May to join the team at Palmetto. Hanna brings15 years of experience in the veterinary field, starting as a veterinary assistant and working her way up to a Practice Manager. She has a love for horses, dogs, & cats. From a young age, Hanna grew up showing horses along the East Coast on the Hunter Jumper circuits but decided to put up her saddle to focus on her career. Hanna has a 10-year-old Black Mouth Cur, named Rocky. You may find him here at the hospital snoozing or running through the lobby on his way to get a treat from one of his aunties in the back. In her free time, you can catch Hanna at the beach, fishing, taking in a concert, or spending time with her loved ones back in Florida for a long weekend!

Our Story

Palmetto Veterinary Hospital is an AAHA Accredited practice that specializes in small animal medicine which includes canines and felines only. We see anything from routine appointments to laser surgeries and dentals. We also offer boarding and bathing services for our clients. Dr. Craig Henke became the owner of Palmetto Veterinary Hospital in June 2005. He is a 2002 Auburn University graduate. He is also loves the outdoors and is an avid fisherman.
