It’s the season of spreading tiny bundles of life far and wide before settling in for a long winter nap.

The delicate balance within an ecosystem is truly incredible. The decomposers and the bacteria, the plants and the insects, the weather and the soil and the animals. All living with one another & positively or negatively affecting one another.
This morning this earthworms movement caught my eye & I watched him for a minute (this video is sped up 4x the real speed haha). How an earthworm moves through the world, how they ‘see’ through vibrations and how they find food without a nose or eyes - it’s amazing to consider how many different organisms have evolved with different ways to survive and thrive. And how they’re all part of a community.
This video reminded me of a favorite children’s book of ours, “They All Saw A Cat” by Brendan Wenzel.
Have you read it? If so, did you love it?

These micro soil blocks are great for starting small seeds, especially those with longer or more variable germination rates. Tricks to making them hold well - a good soil mix without chunks & packing your blocker tightly.
18 cups Pro Mix BX with Mycorrhizae
12 cups potting soil
6 cups compost
1/4 cup bone meal
1/4 cup greensand
Mix well and then mix with water in approximately a 3 parts blocking mix to 1 part water ratio. Give or take depending on the starting moisture rates of your materials.
The Pro Mix is a peat-based product and because of environmental sustainability this is less desirable. In the future I’m planning to do some side-by-side growing trials with a few alternatives to assess for germination/growth/blocking efficacy and will hopefully move away from the use of peat.
