Catnip Shenanigans at Karma Kat Cafe & Rescue, Mount Pleasant, Mi
Saturday evening shenanigans!
Just our normal weekly check-in to see what the Karma Kats are up to, and a couple of updates on what’s going on in Catland.
Sunday evening check-in at Karma Kat Cafe!
Check out what we’ve got going on this week, including the Camille’s fundraiser and Yoga with Cats tomorrow night. Lots of cute kittens and adults still waiting for their forever homes. If you haven’t been in in a while, you’re missing out.
It’s a Monday night check-in with some awesome updates! Check it out.
Things are looking very positive for Andy! (please ignore my cursing. I normally try to keep things, family friendly, but this was too good to not share.)
Just another one of those behind-the-scenes peeks. Andy, who is brother to our Alice, (she is done with FIP treatment next week), started seizing violently this weekend and because Alice has FIP, we knew immediately what this was. He was seizing literally every few hours, extraordinarily violently, worse that I’ve ever seen in 13 years of rescue! He could barely lift his head and quit eating. We started treatment immediately. Before today, he could literally barely stand up! This is amazing progress.I really didn’t have a lot of hope until today! (Before, everybody criticizes the cage, we were gone for a few hours today, it will be cleaned!) This is now the face of hope. We are super happy that FIP meds are now available through veterinary offices. We’ve had such great luck treating well over 50+ cats and getting them to the cured state. This is just another example of where your donations go, as FIP treatment averages around $1000-$1500 per Cat. We needed this today as we also had to make the decision to let one of the foster babies go with advanced FIP. Lots of losses, but lots of victories and that’s why we keep on, keeping on. I think we are averaging somewhere over 500-$1000 in vet bills per week right now so your support is truly appreciated.
O’Malley update!
You know, I prefer to stay behind the camera, so ignore the no make up ugly mug, but this little guy is truly the star of the show here. O’Malley has been on the struggle bus basically since he was a baby, his brothers are more than twice his size so he’s going to go into the vet this week and see what the heck is going on. We’ve been fighting so hard to keep him alive. He does not gain weight, he’s been through all kinds of medication and supplements! Almost lost him so very many times. And even though he’s 12 weeks old, I even kept him on the bottle till literally last week. He is truly something special! Most of the critical babies end up at my house and we try our hardest every minute of every day, because their lives truly matter. I might put in the emotional energy and the physical energy, but you guys are what helps us save these babies. Thank you from the very bottom of our hearts. (And now he is nipping me on the nose and making biscuits. Tell me that isn’t truly priceless.) 💜
Winner, winner…
Tonight we are wrapping up our May/June raffle for this beautiful CMU lighted sign! You have to watch to see who the winner is!
Update on Lil Bug, who is approximately 6 weeks old now. This cutie pie came to us as a one week old bottle baby found randomly on someone’s porch. Liv has been bottlefeeding her and she even had a little vacation week with my best friend who did a fabulous job caring for her. Today Lil Bug transitioned to her big girl cage and she’s loving it! Your support enables us to help the most defenseless babies. This precious girl will now have a full life ahead of her. Peep the comments for her intake photo.
Happy progress…
I posted this on my personal page a few weeks ago, and I can’t tell you how many times I have watched it and cried tears of joy. I apologize for the long story, but this is just one very happy situation that we are lucky to be able to create for these special kitties, and insight on why we do what we do!
Here’s a pretty amazing story, the kind that literally makes me cry:
Miss Ellie came to us because her caretaker of five years went into assisted living, landing this poor girl in a shelter. Over time she shut down emotionally, and was running out of time, with possibly having to head to a barn. But Ellie had an angel who refused to give-up, and who continued to advocate for her by calling every rescue in the state. Patti Speed had the perfect timing to catch me on the phone one fateful day, and like all rescues, we were full but my heart said go for it. (I often get myself and team in some pickles this way) So I committed to a horribly scared kitty, a sad tabby, one of those always overlooked, with little idea of what we had in store. Ellie arrived in a triangle kitty hut, her safe space, we decided she needed it for security. Many weeks passed and she would only peek out once in awhile, but we knew she was eating and doing the healthy things, she was just sad, and SCARY. She struck out at anyone cleaning her cage. We all tried working with her, I would stroke her with a back scratcher and just talk. One day I decided enough was enough, we were enabling her and we needed to see some progress so I wrapped up her little triangle bed with a towel and I moved her to the cat lounge. It took a few more weeks and lo and behold, with kind humans in the room not necessarily interacting with her, Ellie started to come out of her shell. Just a little bit of progress every day for a cat that no one else would’ve had time for. And here we are today, she is a lovely girl with a sweet demeanor waiting for the perfect person to give her a new home. Huge thank you to my team
Monday afternoon check in! See what’s new in Catland.
Hey hey! It's Caturday! Take some time to watch these two crazy tuxedo kitty battle their infamous enemy: yarn! Who's winning, Marbell (on the bottom), Cash (the right), or the yarn (I shouldn't have to tell you which that one is... it's the big yellow string in front)?
It's national donut day, Rita is practicing her baking skills... She wanted to feel included, but she only really knows how to make biscuits, and eat the batter as she prepares it... How would you rate her biscuits?
You asked for it... here it is, more cat-erviews!
Have you seen this video of Piper yet? It's on our tiktok, yes, we have a tiktok and we post tons of silly behind the scenes clips of the cats, just like this! Hop over there and check it out!
Should we upload more of our inciting interviews? 👀
Monday check in!
Take a peek at some of the cute faces we’ve got in the room right now. It’s a great Monday, I am jamming to The Gasoline Gypsies and just loving these beautiful days.
