Update: The owner was able to figure something out and can keep Mac! ❤️

🚨‼️Urgent need! ‼️🚨

We are searching for a foster or forever home for 3 year old, mixed breed, Mac! His current owner took him in about a week ago when relatives couldn’t/wouldn’t keep him anymore. The current owner really wanted things to work but is not able to provide Mac with a home at this time due to unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances.

This has left Mac living in a truck. Mac is confused and anxious and just had his entire life flipped upside down. 💔

Mac does well with other dogs with proper introductions and people, but has never been around cats. He is up to date on vaccinations and neutered.

If you would like to provide Mac a temporary or permenent home, please reach out to us so we can coordinate placement!

Let’s work together to find Mac a home!

This is a courtesy post for a senior dog in West Burlington.

Charlie is a 10-12 year old sweetheart. His owner is needing to rehome him, due to her son developing severe allergies. His owner says he does well with cats, other dogs, and kids and is a very laid back pup. He is neutered but does need shots and some dental attention.

If you have questions about Charlie or are wanting to provide a home for him, please contact us and we will put you in contact with his owner.

Snuggly Apollo was getting his Dale time in the other day! 🐈

Apollo has grown up here…which we don’t love to see happen. We’ve seen him go from a tiny 2 week old baby with his mama to the 7 month old kitten he is today.

Apollo is extremely cuddly and wants nothing more to be a lap kitty with an affectionate human. He does well with other cats, we believe he could acclimate to a dog, and he does well with kids. He’s the whole package!

If you are looking for a lover, Apollo may be the guy for you! Apply to adopt him at AGC shelter.org/adopt-1 or stop by Tue-Friday from 1pm-3pm to meet him! ❤️

While Henry County hasn’t had an official Animal Shelter, it has had some amazing businesses, organizations, and many, many individuals who have stepped up to help strays and owner surrenders. We would like to give a heartfelt shout out to this community of animal rescuers, caregivers, medical care providers.

𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐊𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧 took the lead for about 5 years, primarily taking in unweaned kittens, bottle-feeding them, and rehoming them.

𝐀𝐬𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐲’𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 has stepped up to help Wayland’s dogs and kittens alike and has helped many families who have found themselves needing to rehome pets.

𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 in New London has been contracted by the city to take strays within city limits.

Last, but certainly not least! 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐰𝐬 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 took over the city and county pound in September of 2023 and has taken in many animals and found them new homes! They have also been leading the charge in Mt. Pleasant for feral cat TNR!

Without them, these organizations, Henry County would be in significantly worse shape than it is today and we are incredibly grateful for the hard work and time they have put in to contribute to our community’s critters.

We are also grateful for the out of county organizations that have taken strays in. PAWS & More in Washington, Heavenly Pet Sanctuary and Noah’s Ark in Fairfield, Des Moines County Humane in Burlington, PAW in Fort Madison, and others have all contributed in some way shape or form!

We are sure that this list is not complete.
There may be a few that have existed that we aren’t aware of, so if anyone is missing, or you would like to acknowledge an individual, please mention them in the comments!

Rescuing animals can be a challenging and thankless job and we cannot say enough about all the great work these organizations have done! We are grateful for them and look forward to everyone working toward our common goals.

Time to share some data!

Since January of 2024 AGC has:

-Taken in 106 cats and 11 dogs (83 strays).
-Adopted out 63 cats and 10 dogs
-Provided funding for 32 community cats to be Trap, Neutered/Spayed and Released.
-Sent Rehoming Resources to over 70 families.

We are so excited to have the cat side of our building open and new staff starting next week so that we can take on even more! ❤️ Stay tuned today as we acknowledge all of the organizations and businesses that have substantially helped stray animals and pets that have needed rehomed in our community! There is an overwhelming need in our county and together we can make a difference!

P.S. isn’t Dawn the cutest? She is new to “Kitty Meadow” (our adoption space), and we are working on socializing her as she as the shyest of the crew.

Foster needed!

We have two, 3.5 week old kittens looking for a temporary foster until they get a little bigger. They are starting to eat gruel (wet food and formula) but still need offered a bottle every 4 hours and need some potty assistance.

We provide everything you need, from formula to playpens!

These two would be great for beginners learning how to bottlefeed! We’d be more than happy to show you the ropes! They latch well and seem very healthy.

Miss Cleo has been adopted! ❤️

Those of you who’ve been following along, know that Cleo has been our star in our animal outreach program. We’ve decided to let her retire early, but we will still be bringing kittens and other critters into the nursing homes, schools, Hope Haven, etc! We think Cleo deserves the very best in life and we know she will have that in her new home!

Thank you Cleo for being apart of our journey and bringing joy to so many! We will certainly miss you and think of you often. 💕

✨Vega is ready for her purrfect home! ❤️😻

If you’ve been looking for a kitty, but don’t want much mischief, Vega would be perfect for you!

This gorgeous gal is the calmest of the bunch, at only 6 months old, she still enjoys playing and exploring, but you will often find her perched up high, looking out a window, or snuggled in a cozy cat tree. She can be on the shy side at first, but once she gets to know you, she’ll be asking for pets and snuggles.

Vega’s adoption fee is $110 and that includes her spay, microchip, vaccinations, and preventatives! You can apply to adopt Vega at agcshelter.org/adopt-1 💕 or you can visit us Tuesday-Friday from 1pm-3pm!

P.S. We love her little bobcat ears!

Wally came into our care in June and is still waiting to find his perfect fit. He’s a good boy who’s experienced some trauma and has some barriers as a result. Please share, share, share, so we can find him his forever family. ❤️

This 1.5-year-old Spaniel/Pit mix is a smart, playful guy with tons of personality packed into his 30 lbs. Wally’s a champion cuddler, loves fetch, and is a big fan of tough toys. He’s also quick to learn and knows commands like “sit,” “come,” and “kennel.” He walks great on a leash, loves water, and is ready to be your new best friend!

What Wally Needs:
Wally thrives with structure and a patient, confident owner who can help him build trust and consistency. He’s kennel-trained but has occasional potty accidents when feeling frustrated. He’s cautious with new people and would do best in a quieter environment with slow introductions. While he’s friendly through the fence with one of his foster’s dogs, Wally would do best as an only dog or with a mellow canine friend, and he’d prefer a cat-free home.

Wally is perfect for an individual or couple ready to give him the training, love, and reassurance he needs to thrive.

Ready to meet Wally? Inquire here or apply to adopt him at https://agcshelter.org/adopt-1. His adoption fee is $175 and includes vaccinations, preventatives, a microchip, and his neuter.

Board member, Ann K. was happily distracted by this affectionate kitty yesterday.
