Trick or Treat!!! Halloween is a time for goodies. Caramel apples, pumpkin donuts, chocolates, and candy corn make for a delicious holiday. It is well known that chocolate can be toxic for our furry friends, but sugary candy can also pose risks for toxicity. Too much sugar can cause stomach upset, excessive thirst, and in severe cases electrolyte changes. If your concerned about a tasty treat your pet has consumed, please reach out to your local DVM or the ASPCA animal poison control for further help.

It’s important to remember that one male cat on the prowl can make a significant impact on the number of stray kittens there are on the streets. If you have a cat that spends part of his time outside, you may want to consider neutering as a way to control the pet population.

Taking the cat to the vet can be just as hard on their owners as it is on the patient. To smooth things along, try to get the cat used to the carrier way before any vet trip. Bringing favorite treats and talking calmly can help soothe a nervous traveler, too.

Cats get minor colds and illnesses just like their owners. But if your cat has a runny nose and symptoms including crusty eyes and coughing or sneezing, closely monitor your pet. If the situation becomes worse, or stretches longer than 5 to 7 days, it’s time to make an appointment with the veterinarian.

One of the best things that you can do for your pet is to take them to see a veterinarian on an annual basis. In fact, regular wellness exams are vital to preventing diseases and staving any serious illness before it has a chance to get worse.

Were you aware that chewing can help your cat’s tooth health? Gnawing on some type of toy or even specially formulated food can help floss his or her teeth, massage his or her gums, and scrape away soft tartar.

Diabetes in dogs is on the rise. Type 1 is far more common in dogs than type 2. Reducing obesity in an over weight dog may help lower the risk of this condition developing.

04/11/2024

Yes, fat cats are extremely adorable, but obesity is very unhealthy. Only feed them high quality cat food so they get the nutrients they need to stay healthy. Our favorite food brands are: Science Diet, Royal Canin, and Purina.

Did you know that ear mites in cats are believed to be transmitted in the same way as fleas? These parasites are microscopic and white, and can only be seen upon careful inspection. Usually, they are about half the size of a grain of salt.

For a start when choosing a vet, ask some of your pet-loving friends which veterinarians they recommend. If you don’t have enough pet-owning friends or are new to the area, then call your humane society or a few local kennels and catteries.

Visit the veterinarian on a regular basis to keep an eye on your cat’s blood pressure, respiratory system, and digestive system. Routine exams are crucial to keep your cat in tip-top shape. They can’t express to you when something is wrong with them.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, four out of five dogs older than three years may have some form of periodontal disease. It’s extremely important for dogs to be on a regular oral care routine and get regular checkups.

Animals can't tell us what hurts and when. Watch your pet for signs of discomfort and let us know immediately so we can work with you to ease your pet's pain. If your pet exhibits signs of pain, talk with us. Don't try to treat it on your own.
