🐣 Here are a few precautions to take this holiday weekend when it comes to Easter!

🧺 Baskets: Keep basket filler and candy out of reach! Easter baskets are cute but a trip to the ER is not!

🍖 Table Scraps, Just Say No: Do not allow your company to give your pet's table scraps. Table scraps aren’t a good idea for your cats and dogs. From the spices and fat content and potentially deadly ingredients, table scraps can upset your pet’s stomach or cause other health problems.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Company: If you're hosting this year, secure your pet either in a room or on a leash. With company entering your house, it can provide a window for your pet to bolt out and potentially become lost. Make sure your pet's ID and microchip information is the most up-to-date just in case an accidental escape occurs.

🌼 Easter Lilies are beautiful, but are extremely toxic to cats! If you're going to have them, place them where your kitty cannot reach them. For optimal safety, it's best not to have lilies in the house.

🥚 Eggs: If you're going to have an egg hunt, please remember where you placed the eggs, both hard-boiled and plastic, so your pet doesn't ingest them.

🦆 Easter Animals as Pets: Bunnies, Chicks, Ducks, and other small animals are often given as gifts during this time of year. Often people are unprepared for the responsibility that comes with these vulnerable creatures as they quickly grow into adults and require specialized daily care. Unintentionally many of these animals die within a few weeks and those that do survive the post-holiday are often given to animal control, surrendered to an animal shelter, or unfortunately worse, set free into the wild once the novelty of their presence wears off. We may not see these types of animals at our hospital, but we love and care about them all the same as our canine and feline friends!

🚑 Emergency Assistance: Know where your nearest emergency facilities are located along with their numbers in the event an emergency should arise!
