Happy Sunday!
Please help us congratulate all 7 AKC Canine Good Citizen Test takers!
They all passed with flying colors!
The Cgc Test has 10 different test items ranging from walking on a loose leash, following basic commands, coming when called, being friendly to a stranger, staying under control around another dog, accepting being brushed and touched by a stranger, reaction to distractions, walking through a croud, and supervised separation from the owner.
We are so proud of each one of you!
5 out of the 7 went through our Canine Good Citizen Class. 3 are past Freedom K9 Off-Leash Clients.
Great job!
A special shout out to Melissa and her Corgi, Finley!
She taught the last 2 CGC classes and even passed the CGC with Finley!
Melissa, Your hard work and dedication to training your dogs has not only made a huge impact on them but on all of us ❤️
We appreciate you!
Yep!

Kayak season has arrived!!!
Our clients love taking their dogs out on beautiful summer adventures. We love seeing the updates, pictures, wins, and new skills they work on together.
Obedience training is just the first step to freedom and fun!
Nanci loves to go kayaking. When she started looking for a new dog, one of her first requirements was that the dog must be able to fit in her kayak!
Here, she is teaching her new dog, Sadie, how to relax, lay down, and be appropriate in her kayak. Yep, she's on land... and yep, she's practicing in her garage!
Practice means prepared!
Obedience training made sure Sadie knew what Nanci wanted. She trusts Nanci and will look to her for guidance. Nanci can easily communicate with Sadie on what she needs her to do. Sadie has self-control and the ability to have duration with her commands.
With her obedience foundation, Nanci can teach Sadie new things easily without stress, confusion, and anxiety.
They are going to have so much fun on their first kayak outing!
Take pics on your first water adventure, Nanci! 😊
Just in case someone needs to hear this today ❤️
Wow! Check this out!
Reaearchers at UC Davis have updated their guidelines on when to neuter 40 popular dog verieties by breed and s*x!

As it warms up, don't forget to walk your dog in the early morning or after the sun goes down in the evenings.
Check the ground temp by holding the backside of your hand to the concrete, black top, or even dirt. If you can't comfortably touch for 5 seconds, it's too hot for your dogs!
Play time might need to be shorter than normal.
Make sure you have plenty of cool water when you go on walks or adventures.
Give breaks in shaded grass if possible.
Dogs can overheat very quickly in the summertime time. Be cautious and proactive!
If you think your dog is getting too hot, bring them inside in the ac, cool off their belly's and feet with cool (not freezing cold) water, let them lay in the shaded grass or on your tile or hardwood floor.
If your dog becomes lethargic or has a hard time breathing, this is an emergency! Get them to the closest vet immediately!
Last tip!
Don't let your dog drink from standing water. Some water has blue/green algae, which can kill dogs.
We stay in the grass and shade when it's too warm at pack walk, so please continue to join us through the summer!
Be careful on your summer fun adventures!
As always, if you have any questions, please ask!
If you’ve been around here awhile, you know that the “place” command is client favorite... ours too!
Place means, get on your bed and don't get off.
Maybe you’ve wondered why we emphasize on place so much! The answer is simple: Place is a wonderful managment tool, its great to build trust, self-control, duration, and safety. It also works on state of mind.
Here are some examples:
1.The place command can help PREVENT naughty behaviors.
Behaviors like counter surfing, trash diving, chewing, marking in the house, stealing socks, the behaviors that lots of owners complain about! Now some may argue that this isn’t “fixing” the problem, it’s only preventing it, and you’d be partially correct. Of course, at first you will still need your marker word “no” for these unwanted behaviors, but in the beginning of place work, your dog is learning what they SHOULD be doing, and it’s very clear expectations.
2.The place command can help create a safer dog!
During “place” training your dog is unable to practice dangerous behaviors such as growling or lunging your guests, getting into a fight with another dog in the house, or dashing out an open door when you bring in groceries. Place is a great way to create space between your dog and your guests! It makes everyone feel more comfortable, especially nervous dogs!
3.The “place” command can help with house manners!
Instead of your dog jumping on guests, knocking over small children, or smothering family members while they are on your floor or at the table, “place” is a proactive strategy to help your dog develop a different pattern of behavior! With a fully trained “place” command, in moments where the dog seems to be “too much” they learn to associate feelings of calm and relaxation which will help keep the intensity of those moments much lower!
4.The “place” command can help with seperation anxiety.
If your dog paces when you leave the room, or whines at the bathroom door, maybe they shred things when you leave, “place” can work their mind! Think of taking the SAT test versus running a mile. Mental exercise and exhaustion is a real thing, and that’s what happens in “place”. A dog with significant anxiety will most likely whine and carry on during place, even if you are only seated 3 feet away. The simple request of you asking them to remain in “place” when they seem to think they need to touch you is enough to get them worked up! Allowing them to work through this, with diligence of course, will help their anxiety along the way!
Overall, the place command is a fantastic way to help your dog practice relaxation, and good calm behavior in many different scenarios! It gives a clear job of what you expect even when they are thinking on their own, and provides clear boundaries. It also prevents unwanted behaviors, and ultimately creates a pattern of good choices from your dog!
For help with your place command, feel free to reach out at anytime!
Congratulations to Raegan and her owner, Tom! They graduated from our Liberty Off-Leash Program!
Raegan was referred to us by one of our awesome local Vets (We really appreciate referrals!)
Raegan is a young Malinois that lacked confidence, self-control, proper social skills, and needed an obedience foundation.
She had a rough vet appointment which prompted her vet to send Tom our way. Now, after training, she is just not the same dog. Raegan is under control, obedient, has more confidence, and is all around much happier and safer.
Raegan is going to have a great life with her dedicated owner. Tom put in the work and it shows!
We love seeing relationships grow during training.
Great job you two!
Congratulations to Eve and her owner, Sienna! Eve graduated from our Freedom Off-Leash Board and Train.
Eve is super smart and such a blast to work with. With structure, proper management, and a strong foundation, Eve is awesome! She’s great on a leash, reliable off-leash, and a fun dog to take out and about. Eve loves going on adventures in town and on hikes where she can run around and have freedom.
See you soon sweet girl! Eve boarded with Siskiyou Pet Care before training so we will get to see her when she comes to stay! Yay!
Congratulations to Eddy and his owner, Tiffany!
They graduated from our Good Puppy Program!
Eddy was a typical Shepherd mix pup, full of energy, bad manners, and vocal about everything. Now, Eddy has a good foundation for his puppy obedience. He walks nice on a leash, knows his basic commands, and is getting better manners and more self-control every day.
We can’t wait to see him in July when he starts his adult off-leash training!
Great job!
Anyone else?!
Happy Sunday!
A day in the life of a Freedom K9 Board and Train.
Shelby is on her last week with us. That means she now has a great obedience foundation and we are putting all of her skills to the test.
She went to town, walked around different stores, jumped up on benches, took pretty pictures with flowers, and went into Ace, where she got several compliments on her behavior.
Back at our facility, she worked inside on place and wait.
Outside, she worked on and off-leash around lots of distractions, including other dogs as well as being worked by multiple handlers. There were even power crews to practice around.
She got freedom to socialize with another dog and run around and sniff.
A couple of important nap breaks.
And at the end of the day, Shelby got lots of love and cuddle time from trainer Catherine!
What a productive day!
Shelby has built so much confidence here. We love seeing so many positive changes throughout a dog's stay.
Good girl, Shelby!
Congratulations to Boone and his owner, David!
They graduated from our Liberty Off-Leash Program!
Boone was an escape artist and would drag his owner on walks.
Not anymore! Now Boone is a gentlemen. He's great on a leash, reliable off-leash, and a joy to be around.
Good boy Boone!
Congradulations tl Scout and her owner Lyna!
They graduated from our Liberty Off-Leash Program!
Being able to trust your dog off-leash, around big distractions like wild animals or other dogs is huge. Having your dog listen and have good manners on a leash, at home, in public or other adventures is so important.
That's what training your dog and being consistent brings. The ability to take your dog anywhere and everywhere with confidence.
Training means freedom!
Great job guys!
We would like to introduce Erebus!
This gorgeous Shepherd was recently adopted from the Mount Shasta Humane Society.
Even with the best care, he spent way too long in the shelter.
Thankfully, an amazing couple adopted him.
Unfortunately, Erebus had major behavior issues and guarding tendencies, which led to multiple bites on his record. One requiring stitches.
We are so thankful for the Siskiyou Humane Society for not giving up on this amazing boy and putting him through our Behavior Modification Board and Train!
We would also like to give a huge shout out to his new adoptors for falling in love with this special boy and giving him the chance he so desperately deserved. To be in a loving, stable, dedicated home that will do whatever it takes to make sure he suceeds.
Keep an eye out to see updates on his training progress!
If you could do us a favor and do what you can to help the Siskiyou Humane Society, we would really appreciate it. Share their posts, shop at their thrift store, donate dog/cat food, or donate money if you can. They do such great work, and we love partnering with them.
Congradulations to Bindi and her awesome owners! They graduated from our Liberty Off-Leash Program.
Bindi joined us with low confidence, fear of new things and new people, dog reactivity, niping, and she only listened when she wanted to.
With a new obedience foundation, structure, proper praise, and correction, Bindi has more confidence and self-control. She also listens and follows through with all of her obedience commands on and off-leash.
Great job guys!
Congratulations to Cody and his Malinois, Otto!
They passed their AKC Canine Good Citizen Test after going through our 6-week class as well as going through our Off-Leash Program last year.
Great job, you two!
Love the hard work and dedication.
The power company has our road blocked off today to replace power poles.
We also have no power. Very thankful for our generator!
If you are dropping off or picking up for boarding or daycare place go through Skinners Truck Repair and around to us. The flaggers will show you where to go.
Happy Monday!
Right!?
Happy Sunday!
Congratulations to Emma and her owners, Ava and Brian!
Emma graduated from our Off-Leash Board and Train!
Emma is a super smart, young Shepherd. She struggled with self-control and excessively chased her tail. She lacked manners and needed a solid obedience foundation.
Emma excelled in training, and we had a lot of fun working with her. Her owners are pretty great too 😉
Emma is now on and off-leash reliable. Ava brings Emma all over and gets to truly enjoy her dog. Petsmart, home depot, the park and so much more. At home, she comes when called instead of taking off after wildlife and not listening. She's learning how to settle in the house and her owners are learning how to keep her mentally stimulated.
They have also joined our Pack Walk on Fridays to practice their news skills around new friends and a bunch of distractions.
We love dedicated owners who understand that training doesn't stop at graduation. ❤️
Love seeing you at Pack Walk Ava! See you soon. Keep up the great work!
We would love your help welcoming back little Miss Shelby!
Shelby completed our STAR Puppy Board and Train when she was itty bitty. Now she's back for our Freedom Off-Leash Board and Train!
Shelby will be adding to her puppy foundation with new commands, adult expectations, and new equipment.
Once she graduates from this program, she will be on and off-leash reliable!
It's so nice helping little pups grow and build an awesome foundation from the start. It makes their adult training go so much smoother and they/we have a lot more fun!
We try to do as much real-world training and exposure as possible with every Board and Train that joins our Program.
Rocky has been in training for a week out of his three week Off-Leash Board and Train. He now has his obedience foundation, and we are starting to put it to the test with more distractions, new situations, duration, and more distance.
Today, Rocky went on a couple mile hike with trainer Catherine and helped Kindle move the evacuation trailer into its ready to go summer spot.
In the next two weeks, Rocky will work on his obedience, manners, self-control, confidence, and social skills while being on and off-leash.
He will work with different trainers inside, around the facility, on hikes, at the park, in the car, and at stores and busy sidewalks around town.
Our goal is to set your dog up for success so that you can take them anywhere and everywhere with confidence after training.
Good boy, Rocky!!!
Have questions about our Board and Train?
Let us know!
Congradulations to Asgard and his owner, Flavio!
Asgard graduated from our Off-Leash Board and Train!
They are all the way from San Diego, California!
Asgard was a pretty pushy guy. If he wanted his owner to do something, he had no problem barking at him or even niping him to get his way. He seemed like a confident and even "dominant" dog until we started training, and then we saw the pushy behavior was actually caused by his anxiety, low confidence, and fear.
What a wonderful transformation to watch!
Now, Flavio has the ability to effectively communicate with Asgard, stop any pushy nonsense, and have way more fun with him. He is a gem to walk on leash, is reliable off-leash, he can be brushed and touched without growling or nipping, and he has way more confidence.
Good boy Asgard!
Hope to see you soon, Flavio!
Congratulations to Ryder and his owners for graduating our Liberty Day Training Program!
Little dogs can behave and should have just as much structure and obedience as a big dog. Training brings safety, confidence, and freedom!

Close quarters working on heel, focus, self-control, and so much more. Training doesn't stop at graduation. Did you know Pack Walk is FREE to all of our Off-Leash Graduates!?
Rain, then sleet, then a little bit of snow... Then a sideways snowstorm! 🤣🤯 Nothing stops this pack of highly dedicated dog owners! We all deserved a change of clothes and a hot drink near the fireplace after this one! Great job to the 13 who showed up! Join us! Ok, you can wait for a nicer day 😂 Every Friday at 10 am at Upper Green Horn Park in Yreka and Saturdays at 10 am at Shastice Park in Mount Shasta. See you there! Pack Walk is FREE for past clients! Come train with us!
Check out Juno on her last week of our Freedom Off-Leash Board and Train ❤️ Juno can be described as a sweet but low confident, nervous-nelly. Throughout her Board and Train, we focused on building her confidence and helping her get into a better state of mind, along with her on and off-leash obedience skills. Building her trust and proper social skills around new people has been super rewarding. Look at that body wiggle towards Catherine! 🥰 As you see in the video, Juno knows Heel, Auto Sit, Sit & Down (with hand signals and voice command, let's go (which means stay close but you are free to cruise around), coming when called, and place. She also knows what "good" and "no" means. Did she break accommand early? Yes. Does she take a second to follow through sometimes, absolutely. Training doesn't mean your dog will be perfect all of the time. You won't have a robot. What training gives you is the ability to communicate effectively to your dog and your dog understand and be able to follow through. When Juno got up and started following Catherine instead of staying in the down command, Catherine calmly said no, gave her quick communication from the ecollar, paired with a hand signal. This gave Juno the clear message that she wasn't in the right command and Catherine wanted her back in the down command. Once she was back in the down command, Catherine marked the behavior with the marker word, good, so Juno knew she was in the right command. Clear communication and understanding. Proper training means never needing to yell, repeat yourself, darken your tone, or manhandle your dog. Proper training builds a great relationship and bond ❤️ Good girl Juno! Your owners are going to have so much fun with you!
Every dog loves Catherine!!! ❤️ We love what we do 🥰 Proper training brings great communication and lifelong bonds ❤️
Racecar Warm Ups! Off-Leash heel, going from he left side of the path to the ride side. It takes lots of focus, great communication, and self-control. 13 dogs all under control and all of us had a blast! Training is fun!
A little video from the Mount Shasta Christmas Parade. Check out how loud and busy it is! That's a lot of distractions! How would your dog do in this situation? We saw several dogs in the crowd that were having a very hard time. They were stressed, over-aroused, pulling on the leash, barking, whale eyed, and not enjoying all the craziness. We are so proud of our K9 Pack!
I love our Pack Walks ❤️ Look at all of the good dogs with their awesomely dedicated owners! We have multiple clients that are still joining us after over 6 years of Pack Walks! Love it!
Two hours, that's all it takes to start a new way of life with your dog! Gus was adopted about a year ago and even though he might not look it, he's 14 years old and going deaf!!! He was used to doing his own thing, fence fighting, and who knows what else in his previous home. That made leash walking with this guy pretty tough. He was extremely reactive to other dogs and didn't have leash manners. That made for sucky hikes on narrow trails! Raven brought Gus in for our Walk Doctor and left with a big smile on her face and a happy dog by her side! Gus learned to walk like a gentleman by Raven's side, look to her for guidance and stay at her speed. Once they were having a great walk, we brought out doggie distractions to teach Gus that other dogs are just none of his business and the same new rules apply. Gus also learned his owner has his back and he doesn't need to act like a bad ass to keep safe. It was great to see in this video that Gus made the choice to not only give no reaction to the other dogs but to avoid them by switching to Raven's other side. This is huge!!! They are now off and ready to take on the trails to practice their new skills! Good boy Gus! An old dog can learn new tricks 😉 Thanks for coming out Raven!
Congratulations to Xena and her owner, Akierra! They graduated from our Good Puppy Program! Check out 4.5-month-old Xena on graduation day ❤️ Puppy obedience, good focus, following through with commands, great manners, and self-control! Yep, we have high expectations 😉 Good girl Xena!
Training with Roxie! The trash truck comes every Monday morning like clockwork. What a perfect opportunity to train! Rosie tended to be on the scardy cat reactive side. Pretty proud of this girl! Training for real life!
Some appropriate back and forth play by boarders Burley and Sully <3 You know it's appropriate when both dogs take turns chasing, jumping, play bowing, sniffing, and in between can relax and do their own thing. Burley also loves to splash in the puppy pool we have.
