From the time we are born till the time we die we will forever be getting injured, some we heal from and some will forever change us from that point on. Horses are no different. As a human do you think having a smooth gait affects you making a living? Do you think having a little hitch in your get along stops you from living life? Horses have the results of accidents and poor animal husbandry and they are forever altered by it. Do you think a horse that has an uneven or disrupted gait is always lame? Is there anything anyone can do for them? Do you think most of your owners could ride a perfectly sound 3 year old?

This is a great illustration of why you shouldn't pull nails or any foreign object out of the foot until you have taken the horse to the vet to have it xrayed. If you pull it out, without a radiographic image, you won't know where the nail Penetrated. Getting radiographic images can help prevent your horse from long term or permanent lameness.
