Our Holiday Camp was the perfect way to wrap up a wonderful year! The kids groomed, did groundwork, navigated an obstacle course, played games on horseback, trotted on the lunge line, practiced yoga moves on Sam the draft horse, made horse cookies, and learned about some of the most famous horses in history. Toby the kitten (who showed up a couple of weeks ago and has made himself at home) was a favorite, but the real stars of the show were the chicks (which were a surprise to us all when they hatched from a hidden nest over Thanksgiving.) Overall a fabulous day with all the children and animals, we are already looking forward to more great events in 2024!

Our first Pasta and Ponies event was so much fun! Inspired by a cooking class that Tammy and Shawn attended in Italy, guests learned to make homemade pasta and sauce from simple ingredients. Before dinner, the kids played with ponies while the adults sampled a selection of Italian wines and snacked on charcuterie.

Pasta and Pony parties are available for booking! Gather your group and schedule a class for a fun and unique event for all ages.

On Sunday, November 12 we will be hosting a Brain Training Workshop with Leah Astrup of integratedmovementllc.com . There are just a few spaces available, so if you're interested in participating, please reserve your space asap!

Brain Training workshops:

This workshop is designed to use neurology based exercises to improve balance and stability . We use advanced visual and vestibular training as well as resistance bands to improve joint function and strength, and breathing techniques that help reduce tension and improve brain function.

Improving how our brain and nervous system perform not only improves movement, and reduces pain, but it can also help with decreasing conscious and unconscious fear, as your brain feels safer.

Side effects of fear can show up in the form of muscle tightness, excessive tension while riding, or stiffness after riding.

This first workshop is all off horse, participants will be given homework to practice, and ways to assess and improve their skills. Currently I have 3 Brain Training workshops being offered. Each one building on the last one. The first workshop is all off horse, with the next two incorporating work on the horse.

Class is limited to 4 people. Class will run for approximately 4 hours.

Thanks to Jonathan Myers for a wonderful hoof trimming clinic yesterday! These classes are for people interested in maintaining their own barefoot horses. Jonathan is a wealth of knowledge and experience, not to mention an awesome guy all around. We look forward to hosting him again on September 23 from 1-3pm. In collaboration with Happy Roots, Heart Centered Horsemanship and Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department, we hosted a group of kids at the farm today to meet the animals and ride horses. For some it was a first experience with farm animals. A few were nervous at first, but it was beautiful to see how they gained confidence while learning the power of kindness as they connected with horses, goats, chickens, and even a llama! The theme of the day was mindfulness, in every experience they were encouraged to notice their breath and bodies, how they communicated without words, to keep themselves safe and to stay present. The horses appreciated all the love and attention, they seemed to enjoy the day as much as the kids did ❤️

Based on the number of smiles and progress made by each of our students, I would say our first week of summer camp was a huge success!
Each day included caring for the young chickens, visiting with the goats and llama, grooming and groundwork with horses, yoga, riding lessons, and more.
Students learned ways to help their horses stay relaxed and attentive, to use touch in a way that feels good, and to “listen” to the horses’ communication through body language. They also learned how to use their movements to guide their horses from the ground and from the saddle. They had an opportunity to ride with a ba****ck pad to feel the horses’ movements more clearly. They also learned a lot about skeletons! (Both the horses’ and their own).
We were blessed to have 3 interns from Lenoir Rhyme’s Masters in Occupational Therapy program helping with the camp. Kat, Bri and Kennedy were very much appreciated!!
Blending yoga with horsemanship is a great way to improve body awareness, emotional/nervous system regulation, and mindfulness. As an instructor I value all the benefits this work provides, but I’m pretty sure the kids just appreciated having a blast!
Looking forward to the next camp June 26-28. There are a couple of spaces available, if interested go to heartcenteredhorsemanship.com and register on the event page.

Coming up in April, two great clinics back to back. You can attend one or both, overnight stabling is available. If you don’t have a horse that is no problem, we have a wonderful herd of experienced lesson horses and you are welcome to work with one of them.

Coming in April, two amazing clinics in one weekend that will help you achieve unity with your equine partner.

Yoga for Equestrians explores how the practice of yoga can enhance horsemanship and riding regardless of discipline or skill level. This clinic includes a practice on the mat, groundwork to develop connection and prepare the horse for riding, and a mounted lesson (optional). Instructor Stacey Carter is a registered yoga teacher, PATH Certified Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning, and experienced trainer with a focus on developing mutual beneficial relationships between horse and human.

Yin Horsemanship clinics focus on listening, responding, allowing, and offering relaxation and restoration. These unique clinics combine hands-on techniques and groundwork to release tension in mind and body and facilitate fluidity and ease of movement, creating a harmonious connection between horse and human. In partnership with bodyworker Deb D’Amato, these clinics will teach you hands-on practices that can be done from the ground to help your horse feel better and improve performance in any discipline.

You may bring your own horse or work with one of the lesson herd at LaBelle Equestrian. Stabling is available for horses attending both clinics.
