That’s a wrap! Our final poultry processing day of 2024 is done. If you’ve enjoyed our chicken and turkey this year, thank this crew (And the few who didn’t make it into this picture). These wonderful people do the hard work to bring our proteins from farm to table. We processed and packaged close to 5,000 birds this year. I couldn’t do any of it without them.

We can’t tell you how excited we are about this new product! Our friends and neighbors are beginning their direct sales journey with their multigenerational organic dairy. The Hoffner family raises their cows without the use of antibiotics and feeds soy free grass and forage. Their “Pet Milk” will be available at our store starting this weekend and is available on our website for preorder and home delivery. Shopping direct from the farm means so much for the farming community and family farms like theirs and ours.

Possibly the most important thing we feed our birds. Rocks, yes, 🪨! These rocks act like teeth in their digestive system, specifically the gizzard, where it helps grind up their feed to help them get all the nutrients from it they need. We offer grit free choice to all our birds, but turkeys are the ones that eat the most of it, and the biggest sizes.

It’s our farmiversary! Hard to believe that it was 8 years ago today when I first arrived on this farm. I hadn’t set foot in it until the day we moved in.

We were living in California with plans to move to another part of NC. Matt jumped at the chance to see this farm as soon as he saw the listing. We were already in escrow on another place! But we just had this feeling that it wasn’t where we were supposed to be.God provided, as he always does, and we were in escrow on this farm the day he can and saw it.

It’s crazy to look back on the journey we’ve been on over the last 8 years. We started with just 10 acres and hope to just homestead a bit for ourselves. But once the ball got rolling it kind of took off. These last few years have been amazing growth right along with plenty of challenges. Can’t wait to see what the future holds. Thanks for following this wild ride!

Farm faces Friday continues!
Hi! I’m Ashley and I have worked here for at least seven years, we lost count. I’m best at eviscerating and cut ups, and those are probably my favorite jobs too.

My favorite Farm memories are looking back at all of the really long hard days when we were all still learning how to do “this.” The jobs were probably horrible and going even worse, but we would door dash donuts, or someone would go grab a pizza, and there has always been so much community around what we do here. Grandma hand feeding all of us apples because we literally just couldn’t stop working 😅😩💜

Sweet or savory? I absolutely love sweet foods but I like to balance every bite with salty!

Travel bucket list? I need to go to Banff, Canada. Like yesterday. It looks so peaceful!

Something interesting about life outside the farm? I’m an artist by trade, and am constantly inspired by nature especially flowers and bugs. I also live on a farm - and knew Bevin before we worked together here! Bevin taught my family how to “harvest” chickens probably 10 years ago!

We always aim for zero waste while processing chicken. In the past we have mostly composted the byproducts of packaging chicken.
Today was the first time ALL chicken parts have passed through the packing line. We are working with specialists, ag educators, labs, and even a nutritionist to use more items on farm.
So in the very near future you will be able to purchase items like dog treats, chews, and food; blood meal for gardening; even chicken skins to make keto-friendly crispy snacks like “chick”charrones.
