Wrapping up canning season this weekend! It’s such an amazing feeling to be done. I, Rose, have stepped back a lot this season. Allowing, Stan, to shine and decided what crazy experiments we shall try this year. Today, we are making cranberry juice (something new and exciting) and applesauce. Then we will put everything away, clean out the fridge, and reclaim our kitchen. Now get some R&R and start planning next year.

Yesterday we rolled up our sleeves and dug a few holes. We ended up harvesting 50 # of potatoes! What do you do with 50 # of potatoes? Well we froze some and we canned 7 quarts. We also did 6 pints of green beans today since the pressure canner was out. Still have a bunch to process for next weekend.

Fresh green beans $2 a quart (roughly 12-14 oz per quart) or $8 a gallon. We are around all weekend and would love our fridge back.

Our garden watch cat, Mr Milo. He has been a good mouser to have this year. He’s brought us at least 1 mouse and kept the chipmunks and squirrels at bay. In this picture he had a squirrel cornered in the tree.

Garden update. Still no tomatoes or peppers but they’re getting there. Plenty of beans though. Good number of squash waiting. Cucumbers and zucchini looking good too

The garden she grows. Some stuff has been far slower this year than in the past but the rain this year helps a lot of stuff go. While checking the potato crop I knocked a few loose so time for some young potatoes.

I spy our first raspberry! Last year they took a hard hit, lost one over winter, but at least one of the two is pulling some fruit. Always a learning experience 🩵

Front garden beds for flowers are finally done. Time to fill them and get planting. Flowers are to be chamomile, bread seed poppy, lavender, lemonade cosmo, three type of sunflowers, white yarrow, vibrant color stocks, pink poppy, milkweed, lilies, tulips, basil, oregano, dwarf tomatoes and five color peppers. Maybe cilantro and dill.

Working on more planter boxes. While grateful for the rain it is pushing us behind schedule. Also we have butternut popping through the mulch.
