Lelia, one of our veterinary assistants, participated in a 7th and 8th grade Health Expo at East Knox Junior High School. She demonstrated how to draw up oral medications, how to restrain animals, and how to bandage a paw. Leila also explained what veterinary assistants and technicians are, what roles they play in a veterinary clinic, and what schooling is required for each position. Thank you, Lelia, for representing Hillside and volunteering in our community!

Meet “Luca,” a 1-2 year old mixed breed that was recently rescued from a county shelter. He had a fractured and dislocated elbow injury, which resulted in chronic pain and minimal use of the leg. Luca was adopted by a loving family and brought to Hillside. After Dr. Dubusky examined the happy head, x-rayed the leg, and consulted with an orthopedic surgeon, it was determined that there was no viable corrective surgical option. The elbow injury was too old and too severe. Amputation of the right front leg was the best solution. The video is less than 24 hours after Dr. Dubusky amputated the leg. We added a couple pictures in the comments below. When we called the owner on day two, Luca was doing very well, and they were having a hard time keeping him quiet! Although this handsome young boy lost a leg, he has found his furever home, will no longer be in pain, and will have an excellent prognosis on three wheels! #rescue #fureverhome #welovetripods #lovingexpertcare 🐶🐾🤎
