THIS IS IMPORTANT, please read.

If you pet has a microchip from Save This Life, it no longer “works” and there is no way to get your information to someone in the event your pet is lost. This was a “cheaper” microchip option offered by many rescues and shelters.

The microchip itself works, and thankfully we/you can register it with another existing company so that if in the event your pet is lost the information is accessible.
At CCAH we use HomeAgain microchips, which is a great company with a long track record in the industry. We can register the chip with them for a one time fee, and unlike a lot of these smaller, less established companies-they aren’t going anywhere.

We are happy to scan your pet for FREE if you are unsure which type of chip your pet has, and help transfer the registration for you if needed. If you know your pet’s microchip number, we can also help you look it up to see who it’s registered under.

If we placed the microchip at our hospital it is a HomeAgain chip and your pet is not affected.

The closure of a pet microchip company sparks confusion, but AAHA's microchip registry lookup tool can help.

We are starting to get questions from many of you (concerned cat parents) about this and I wanted to post a RELIABLE source of information regarding what we know at this time about influenza in cats.

As of 2/11/25 we do not have any confirmed cases locally, and the biggest risk at this time to our cats appears to be raw milk and meat.

I will update you all as information allows/evolves. -Dr Rogers

Raw Diets Warning: Unpasteurized milk and raw or undercooked meat—including retail pet diets that contain raw meat—have been linked to severe illness and death from H5N1 in pet cats and captive big cats.

These are the days I question having livestock. 🥶

Please make sure your animals have lots of fresh, unfrozen water; plenty of hay/feed, and a place to stay out of the wind.

Thinking of adding rabbits to your home? Remember that they are a 10 year commitment, and need more than a hutch outside. They do great with litter boxes inside, and should be spayed/neutered as well.

For 190 days José and Maria have been waiting patiently for their forever home. After coming to us as part of a humane case, these resilient rabbits have continued to thrive.
Let's make this the year Jose and Maria find their forever family!

This is not meant to be an alarmist post, but a reminder of one reason why raw pet food is not recommended. There have also been documented cases of cats dying after ingesting raw (unpasteurized) milk from cows infected with this type of influenza.
So far these cases are confined to the west coast of the US, but it will likely move east with bird migration, live animal transportation, and product distribution.
Dr Rogers

An Oregon house cat died after eating pet food that tested positive for bird flu, Oregon authorities said, prompting a recall of raw frozen pet food that was sold nationwide. https://nbc4i.co/4gRneTE
