We regularly receive calls regarding feral cats in town. We understand that there are SO many ferals, and it can feel overwhelming at times. The good news is, there is a solution to getting the population under control, and lessening the unwanted behaviors (spraying, fighting, etc.) of feral cats.

TNR stands for Trap/Neuter/Return. It is the ONLY scientifically proven method effective in controlling colony population long term. Removing cats from an area completely only opens the territory up for new, unaltered cats to take over and make use of the area resources, continuing the cycle. This is known as the "vacuum effect" and it occurs among all species of animals, not just cats.

The reality is, there will ALWAYS be feral cats. But through this program, we can create a much more pleasant relationship between the cats and residents. Loathe them or love them, TNR is the answer!

If you are in need of assistance with a feral cat colony, please reach out to Grove Community Cat Coalition!

Providing Trap-Neuter-Release services for the community cats in Mountain Grove, Missouri since January 2024.

*UPDATE: INTAKE FREEZE IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
*IMPORTANT NOTICE*
Due to an ill dog coming into the shelter, we will temporarily be enacting an intake/adoption freeze while we quarantine the animals and sanitize/disinfect our facility, per protocol.

This is not a cause for concern, and is only a precautionary measure to protect and preserve the health of our community's pets while we work with our veterinarian to ensure the animals in our facility are properly cared for.

Animal Control will still be operating as usual, and we are happy to assist in any way we can, aside from adoptions and intakes, until further notice.

Thank you for your understanding.

**UPDATE: No longer available**
This little cutie, who we have been calling Tilly, is ready for a home. She is believed to be approximately 9 weeks old, is a mixed breed, and will be a medium/large size dog when shes fully grown.
If you are looking for a smart dog, this is your girl. She learns very quickly, and is very attentive to people. She is sweet with adults and kids, has been submissive to the other dogs and gentle with a cat.
Tilly loves stuffed animals and squeaky toys, but most of all she just loves people and is hoping for her perfect family.

It is $25 to adopt from the shelter. Tilly has been dewormed, and she received her first puppy vaccination. She will go to her new home microchipped. Adopter must spay at 6 months and vaccinate for rabies at 4 months.

If you would like to meet Tilly, please call Animal Control at 417-259-9180.

**AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION**
This pretty girl is ready for a new home!
What we know, she is approximately 4 years old and is spayed. She is litterbox trained, and is very sweet and cuddly. She seems to do okay with other cats, and tolerates dogs but is not a big fan of them. She loves laying on soft blankets, especially if you put one in a cardboard box for her.
Unfortunately, she was found at the shelter extremely emaciated, barely able to walk, and with sores on her legs from laying in one position. We truly were not sure if she would pull through at first, but she's a survivor and she has gotten so much better in the week that she has been with us! She is now gaining weight, can walk and jump short distances, and has a clean bill of health from the vet.
*She will need to be fed canned cat food and needs to be an indoor only cat. She is still weak, but getting stronger every day! She just needs time and love.

This sweet girl has been dewormed and treated for fleas/ticks. She was tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

There is no fee to adopt cats from the shelter. Adopter must have her vaccinated for rabies within 7 days.

If you are interested in adopting, please call Animal Control at 417-259-9180.

This kitten is missing a toe on his front foot, but it does not cause him any discomfort.

There is no fee to adopt. Adopter must vaccinate for rabies at 4 months and neuter at 6 months.

If you are interested in meeting this kitten, please call Animal Control at 417-259-9180.

280 animals came through Mountain Grove Animal Control's little shelter in 2024. 144 of them found their new forever homes, and the others were returned to their owners!
As we bring in the New Year, I just wanted to send out a heartfelt "Thank You" to everyone who has supported Animal Control throughout the year by adopting, sharing posts, spreading the word, commenting, donating, etc. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, we serve an amazing community of people.

In honor of our "2024 Alumni" I would love to see updates on the dogs and cats (and chickens/guinea pigs, etc.) that went to their new homes last year. Please feel free to leave a picture/update in the comments.

Thank you Mountain Grove for another great year. Here's to an even better 2025!

**Update: No longer available**
Buster's New Year resolution is simple, to be a good boy for his new family.

Buster is believed to be around 4 years old, and is a large size black lab. He is leash trained, potty trained, knows commands, loves to play ball, and will melt right into you when you pet his ears. He aims to please, listens very well and has good manners. He is a pretty mellow guy once he settles into his surroundings, and should do well in any living situation.

He has been friendly with adults and older kids. He was being calm and wagging his tail at a cat that we introduced to him. We have not been able to test him with small children. Buster is dog selective, and has gotten along with some dogs at the shelter, but seems to not like intact males.

It is $25 to adopt from the shelter. Buster will go to his new home dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped, with a voucher for a free rabies vaccine, and nutritional package from Urban Dogg. Adopter must neuter within 30 days.

If you are interested in meeting Buster, call Animal Control at 417-259-9180.
