Was there a new puppy under the tree this year?
Avoid making these 3 mistakes in the early days.
1. Skipping crate training— Crate training is a very valuable tool in puppy training. Crates can be used to prevent potty accidents, practice impulse control and prevent separation anxiety. The crate should be a positive and calm place for puppy to spend time! Skipping this step only makes your job harder!
2. Giving too much freedom— In the early days, your puppy should be supervised all the time! Allowing your puppy to have too much unsupervised freedom and roaming time, can influence your puppy’s developing habits. Puppies enjoy chewing and don’t have a controlled bladder— so if you aren’t supervising them, you make end up with accidents and destroyed personal items.
3. Delaying formal training— many puppy owners will wait until their dog is 6 months old OR until problem behaviors have already developed before contacting a trainer. However, training should start day ONE! Waiting to work with a trainer only allows habits to develop and solidify, when instead they could have been prevented!
