Bute vs Banamine – what's the difference? 🤔

The two pain-relieving prescription medications that most horse owners keep on hand are Bute and Banamine – but do you know the differences between the two?

Do you ride your horse in a tie down?

The next time you choose your equipment, remember this picture.
The next time you have to choose a "harsher" noseband because your horse is "running through" your current choice, remember this picture.

Consider the fact that you may be causing nerve damage.
Consider the fact that maybe your horse can't even feel their face anymore.

These are the images of a quarter horse ridden in a tie down with a wire noseband in their futurity year of barrel racing.
This horse is now 15.

Correct infrared imaging of the horse tells us more than just a story of anatomy, more than just a story of physiology.

Since we lost Sky I'm now casually looking for a gelding for my husband. Needs to be 15hds + and broke to ride or at least started good. We are in no rush and want something at least close to the quality he was. Doesn't have to be registered but a good using horse. Will be mainly doing ranch work and trail riding. If anyone comes across a horse that might fit the bill please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Not everyone has a arena at home to practice in. When I started barrel racing I took one rusty barrel into my grandmother's hay meadow and became a barrel racer. Of course as time went on I made a better place to practice. But, in the beginning I had to learn outside of the arena.

There are many drills you can do with one barrel. Work on flexing your horse, practice their approach to a barrel. Teach your horse to travel with their shoulder picked up around the barrel. There are ways to train at home without an arena. Use your surrounding to your advantage, go around trees. If you want it bad enough you will find a way to get there.

A great illustration to show how important rider health and alignment is; and how it can affect position and messages you send to your horse. “Maintain yourself to maintain your horse” 💜💜🐴🐴

When Man o’ War first arrived in Louis' barn, he was nearly impossible to train. He was very difficult to saddle and would dump his exercise riders any time he got the chance. It was once written that he was loose at Saratoga Race Course for fifteen minutes before someone could catch him!

“He fought like a tiger,” recalled Samuel Riddle. “He screamed with rage and fought us so hard that it took several days before he could be handled with safety.”

But once he was settled enough to race, he was explosive. Man o’ War dominated all but one of his ten races as a two-year old. He quickly earned the nickname “Big Red” and began to attract a huge fan base at a time when race track attendance was faltering because of gambling being outlawed.

Man o’ War became such a sensation that he and Louis had to have security. Police officers and Pinkerton guards were with the horse everywhere he went, protecting him from fans who would try to grab hairs from his mane and tail. They were also protecting him from more serious dangers like assassination plots.

It quickly became clear to Louis that Man o’ War would need a very tough jockey. He once gave the leg up to Earl Sande in the Miller Stakes (1920) and Sande decided that Man o’ War, though talented, was not the horse for him. “After the race Sande came up to me and he says, ‘You’ll never get me on his back again. He damned near pulled my arms out of their sockets,” Louis said in Step and Go Together.
