Stone County Humane Society

Stone County Humane Society A small private rescue and no-kill shelter for animals in Stone County ARKANSAS Animal Shelter Stone County Humane Society, Inc.

is a 501 (c)3 organization created in 1999 with the goal of building an animal shelter for dogs and cats in Stone County, AR. We completed that goal in August 2016 with the opening of our new 3,000 sf shelter building. Our organization is managed by a 10 member board and we have 3 part-time paid employees and one full-time shelter manager who help feed and care for the animals. We are located at 1

7379 Hwy 9, Mountain View, AR 72560. We have limited space but we do not euthanize to make room for another animal. We try to place all our animals in the right loving home as soon as possible after spaying and neutering and complete vetting. The doors keep revolving as one leaves another comes so we are usually in full capacity at all times. We can care for about 25 to 30 dogs at any one time and about 20 to 25 cats. An appointment must be made to surrender an animal please call 870-269-5200 and leave a message and someone will return your call. The shelter is open daily for adoptions from 2 to 5 PM and mornings by appointment only. Our dog adoption fee is $150, our fee for a Paws in Prison trained dog is $200, and cat adoption fee is $75. You can complete an online application found on our website at schspets.org and someone will contact you once received. You can see all our dogs and cats ready for adoption at petfinder.com and adoptapet.com. If you wish to make a donation to help support our cause, please go to cuddley.com and look for our posts there for special medical needs for our animals or for ones that have been here a while and are hoping to get adopted soon. You can also go to paypal.com and send a general donation to help meet our monthly bills as well as donate right here on FB. We also take cash or checks at the shelter or you can mail your check to SCHS, 17379 Highway 9, Mountain View, AR 72560.

Dog/Cat Food Needed for the Community...
The hungry animals in our community need your help! Times are hard for some folks and they need help feeding their animals. Our food pantry that supplies dog and cat food for those in need is running VERY low. Please bring us your unwanted dog/cat food, even if the bag is open. You can also pick up a new bag from the store and donate it. We appreciate anything you can provide.
Thank you!

The Scoop for January 2025
Happy 2025 to all! The animals wanted us to send a shout out to everyone who participated in the Angel Paws Tree. We thank you for blessing these babies with such great gifts.

In 2024 there were 55 dogs and 73 cats adopted, 52 animals less than 2023. In an effort to increase adoptions, we are reducing the adoption fee for dogs from $150 to $100.

SCHS paid $28,870 to spay and neuter 527 animals in Stone County during 2024. Our monthly low-cost clinics and voucher program continue to aid the community in getting their animals fixed, reducing over population of unwanted/neglected animals. Please call the shelter for information about these programs.

Cold weather is here and pets left outdoors without proper shelter can freeze, become disoriented, lost or injured. Bring animals inside or provide warm places for them outside. Use a dry dog/cat house or container and raise it a few inches off the ground. Cover the bottom with cedar shavings or straw (not hay) and turn the enclosure opening away from the wind.
Other tips include:
• Protect their paws from salt and chemicals; wipe clean, put petroleum jelly on paws or booties
• Antifreeze is poison; watch for leaks and store properly
• Check your engine for cats seeking warmth - honk horn or open hood before starting vehicle
• Use space heaters with caution; they can burn the pet or get knocked over and cause a fire
• Watch for hypothermia such as whining, shaking or not moving

AR law requires that all animals have proper shelter, food, and water. Make sure their water is not frozen and your pet has everything it needs to survive the cold. We have extra straw at the shelter to give out to the community. Please call us if you need some for your pet 870-269-5200.
