Muenster Milling Co. was founded in 1932 by our great-grandfather, Joe Felderhoff. Joe would buy grain from local family farms and mill their wheat into flour. When Joe passed away in a car accident, his son Arthur was still in his teens. But that didn’t stop Arthur from taking over the business at an early age.
Soon after, Arthur was drafted into the military and spent four years overseas as a Seebee in the U.S. Naval Construction Force. Upon returning to Muenster in 1947, he discovered he could buy flour cheaper in Kansas than he could make it in Muenster, so he converted the flour mill into a feed mill. For the next 30 years, Arthur focused on making high-quality livestock feeds for local farms and feed lots in North Texas.
In 1974, Arthur’s son Ronnie took over as president of the company and continued to grow the business by developing new products such as show feeds and horse feeds. In 1989, Ronnie saw an opportunity to enter the pet food business, and installed a pet food extruder, completely changing the course of Muenster Milling. This allowed the company to create new, innovative product lines such as Muenster Natural, one of the first all-natural pet foods in 1999.
In 2007, Ronnie’s son Mitch joined the company to lead the sales and marketing efforts, and his brother Chad joined in the summer of 2013 to handle operations. With the company now firmly in the 4th generation of Felderhoffs, we continue to innovate and bring new products to market, using local ingredients to produce low-carb, anti-inflammatory pet foods. Yet we’ll never lose our focus on the qualities and commitment to excellence that started with our great-grandfather, Joe.
