Hickory Grove Farm is a quaint horse boarding facility nestled in the rolling hills near the Southern Unit of the Kettle State Forest. Featuring old barn charm and beautiful scenery this facility boasts uniqueness; it has a one of a kind history to match. Hickory Grove Farm was constructed in the 1950โs as a fabulous Standard Bred facility and beef cattle operation and no expense was spared. Hickory Grove Farm was purchased in the 1970โs by the Achtenhagen Family who bred and raised Quarter Horses on the property. A fire in the late 80's caused need to rebuild the stall portion of the barn, but much of the character remains. The current owner, Bret Achtenhagen, is the third generation to own the farm and his son Brady might just be the fourth generation. Today Hickory Grove is home to horses encompassing a number of breeds. Box stall and outdoor board are offered, and regardless of choice every horse receives individual care and attention. Stalled horses enjoy all day turn out in pairs or small groups. They also enjoy spacious paddocks, choice hay in the winter, and green pastures in the summer months. The outdoor horses live in a small herd and spend most of their time roaming the nine acres they have access to. The facility itself offers indoor and outdoor arenas, wash stall, and tack room.
