New Bird Clinics location in Arlington Heights for Dr Scott McDonald

NEW LOCATION

311 S Arlington Heights Rd
Arlington Heights, IL

We will no longer be doing bird clinics at Parrot Stars bird store.
They want to reclaim the room we use, for quarantine of new birds,
and storage. Plus, the space is too small.

We will be moving the clinic to a vacant Bank Building, 1/2 mile south,
on the east side of Arlington Heights Rd. It is a large, white, one-story building with a huge parking lot, on the north side. Come in thru the double-glassed doors, furthest from the street. Room is directly ahead, on the left. We will now have more space than we've ever needed.

No appointments taken, first come, first serve.

Dr Scott McDonald, George and Jenna.

Please, if you want specific questions on a bird, please message or call.
If you just post a comment, they get missed, especially later ones.
I'm sorry I don't have time to keep rereading all the comments to see if I missed one.

A feel-good moment, a 5th grader wrote about their favorite experience in grade school and then wrote about me coming to talk about the rescue and getting to meet the birds while they were in 1st grade. (Each class got a half-hour program) I'm glad I left such an impact on them.
It made me feel good when the teacher shared this.

Both the birds and I are tired today. Thanks to everyone who stopped by at the fair to say hi and meet the birds. Had a little excitement on the way home, trailer tire decided to throw the tread, took out the fender also.was about 10 miles from home and the tire was still holding air so I drove slowly home, made it. Fun times!

These are the birds I'm tentatively bringing Sunday to the fair.
Also I have the plastic pet carriers, that I'm going to sell for between $2-$15.
Lastly I have a lot of very nice used cages that I want to sell cheaply. There are several California cages and some King cages and of course A&E cages, plus playstands.
I accept cash, check or Zelle.
A reminder this is a meet and greet for the birds, you are not taking any home Sunday, application and home visit still need to be done.

I'm such the bird whisper that even the wild birds want to come in. Found this little guy in my living room.
My dogs were, "Dad there is another bird in here" and lngnored him.
Not injured just tired, he took right off when I let him loose outside.

Update on Elliott the double yellowhead amazon that put a hole in his wing.
He is doing great!
Back eating everything, gaining weight and moving and climbing around, plus moving his injured wing
I won't lie, I was worried he lost a lot of weight, he had a bad infection, and just slept all the time.
I ended up feeding him Harrison recovery formula and I believe that is what brought him back around.
He just needed more calories to get better.
Elliott still has a ways to go but I expect a full recovery.

All that is changing March 23rd.
Come out to the fair and meet the birds.
( I will bring a bunch of them, but if you are coming and want to meet a specific one please let me know)
This is always a fun fair.
Hope to see a bunch of you!

So Elliot the new amazon got hurt yesterday. I have no idea how. I fed him and came back later to clean cages and saw blood on papers and on his wing. Thought it was a broken blood feather, it wasn't. Some how he manged to punch a hole in his wing and scape his skin along the bone. I didn't panic and started to figure out how to close up the wound, started with the kwik stop, glue and the silver nitrate sticks. Plus a very long phone call with the vet I work with. He talked me through getting poor Elliott bandaged up.
The good news is he is eating, drinking and pooping normally and able to move around in the small cage I moved him to. He also did get antibiotics that the veterinarian reccomended. A vet visit will be in the future to remove bandage and checkup.
So why am I telling you all this? It is because accidents happen and as a good bird parent you need to be ready to deal with emergencies, maybe not to this level. If I didn't work with a veterinarian he would of needed to see one. Smaller emergencies you should be able to deal with using, the Kwik Stop, veterinarian glue, and silver nitrate sticks. All are available on Amazon and worth having on hand to deal with stuff. So learn from this be prepared.
