Well yesterday was another sad day here. Last week one of my foster boys had passed away. Yesterday His brother had joined him. I’m thankful that I was there all day with Jerry until he eventually passed. We watched some movies and cuddled until his time came. I will forever miss these two brothers. They have brought much joy in my life for the short time that I’ve had them. He is now forever resting next to his brother.

It’s that time for Exotic Fact Friday!!

What is firing up and firing down?

When someone talks about these two terms they are talking about their geckos, for the most part, coloration. For example, when a crested gecko fires up their color becomes bolder, and more vibrant. This can happen for just about any kind of reason like temp change, humidity change, excitement, scared, etc. When a crested gecko fires down their colors are more calm, muted or dull looking. This happens when they are calm and relaxed. Firing up and firing down can look very drastic from each other. Here is Osiris Fired up vs down. WARNING DECEASED ANIMAL!!!!

So today was a sad day here at exotics cove. One of our senior rats Remy passed away.

Last summer I took in these senior brother rats, Remy and Jerry. Their owners couldn’t take them to their new home and I gladly gave them a place to live. They were close to 2 years when I took them in and lived longer than expected. Remy was the one who passed today and I’m sure his brother isn’t far behind. They have brought me much joy and happiness for the short amount of time that I’ve had them. Remy was very much spoiled with treats, free roam, and cuddles. I’m glad I could give him a great retirement. Before we buried him in our garden, I took some photos to remember him by. They turned out beautiful and many tears were shed taking them. I hope his soul goes back into Gaia and he becomes something new. I will miss you dearly Remy.

We got some more exciting news! We got our second egg drop from Mushu x Osiris and they are fertile! Her first clutch were not fertile which is normal for new time moms. That makes 5 eggs in the incubator for the start of this season. Follow for more updates!

It’s that time again for Exotic Fact Friday!!! Today we are going to talk about something that is rather cute. As most know you need a basking spot for a variety of different reptiles and these reptiles will lay under this light and bask in it for warmth. They do this because they are cold blooded meaning they can’t make their own heat and rely on a heat source to warm them up. Well there a another term for this action which is called Splooting. This refers to how the animal basks. They usually will lay flat on their tummies with their arms and legs a spread out. This helps them get maximum heat coverage over their body and it’s super cute to see. Thankyou guys for reading and as always follow me for more! Until next time stay wild!

Hello Everyone! So I’m wanting to do something new and I’m now doing Morph Wedsnesdays! Today we are going to discuss the Patternless morph with crested geckos! Patternless is when the gecko has little to no pattern at all. Patternless can also display any traits like pin striping, dal spotting, knee cap, fringe, blush, portholes, etc. Follow me for more! Happy Exotic Monday everyone!! And a happy one it is! The egg counter went to zero for our Pengu x Mochi pairing which means we got 2 more fertile eggs in the incubator for the 2023 season! This is Pengus first time laying and she did really well! She is recovering with some Pangea with calcium and a little bit of honey as a treat. I’ll update more as the incubation continues!

It’s that time for Exotics Fact Friday! Today we are going to discuss morphs!

What are morphs? These are characteristics like colors or patterns, that animals wouldn’t normal display in the wild. There are many different morphs with each exotic species. Some of these include: Harlequin, patternless, tiger stripe, lily white, etc. I hope you enjoyed this fact and I’ll see you next time!

It’s time for, Exotic Fact Monday!

How can you tell when your gecko is sleeping if they don’t have eye lids? Well even though a big number of geckos don’t have eye lids, you can still tell when they are sleeping based on their face. When your gecko is awake they look alert and their eyes look wide. When they are sleeping their face kinda gives a sink in look. It is very noticeable with crested geckos due to their crests.
