Learning to show with this boy has been such a joy. We learn something new with each show we go to and I can’t wait to make our first trip to the American Brittany Club national next week! 🐶
Brooks and I are shown here, showing his gait or movement in the ring. In conformation, the judges are looking at the dogs and seeing which ones hold up to the ideal of the breed, or the breed standard.
In Brittanys, the standing for gaiting reads as follows: “When at a trot the Brittany's hind foot should step into or beyond the print left by the front foot. Clean movement, coming and going, is very important, but most important is side gait, which is smooth, efficient and ground covering.”
If you’ve ever been curious about competing in conformation, I encourage you to read your breed standard and seek guidance/mentorship from breeders who can show you and explain to you the various aspects of the standard!
Have you read your breed standard?
