If you’ve got puppy fever, stay tuned to our page over the next 8 weeks as we follow the journey of the Elite Eight puppies. These puppies were recently discovered in a box and turned into the Animal Protection League in Anderson where they received care over the weekend in a foster home, and then were transferred to us for long term care with the goal of eventual placement into homes. The puppies are now all in foster homes and have been fed, weighed, pottied, and are resting comfortably. We will try and Pace ourselves with pupdates and not overload you but we can’t make any promises🐾
We will share their journey with you as they grow. In honor of our founder, Terri Panszi, we are naming the puppies after her favorite sports teams- the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever. Terri just celebrated a birthday Thursday night at the Pacer’s game, and we know she will love to help us pick out names as we get to know the pups! We don’t know what the next 8 weeks will hold, and we hope there is no heartbreak to share, but as everyone is probably aware puppies at this age are fragile and the mother was not abandoned with the puppies, so we do not know if they nursed at all, or for how long if they did.
We have already generously received 8 tubs of puppy milk, which we predict should last us a while, but if anyone is wanting to send supplies for the puppies, please check back this week as we post our Elite Eight Wishlist. And in the meantime, our organization is always in need of donations, as we are a 501c3 non profit and receive no government funding. We exist on the kindness of support from people who share our dream of a world where no dog or cat will be without a home of their own.
Nikki and Niko are ready for adoption! They look so different but are siblings. One parent is labradoodle and the other a dachshund/pit mix. They are not bonded and can be adopted separately. They are so sweet! Apply at Munciearf.com.
We have another special kitty to share with you tonight. Matilda is a young, super sweet cat. She was born with a condition called Cerebellum Hyperplasia (CH). CH is a non progressive condition caused by the brain of a fetus not developing properly, resulting in jerky movements when the cat walks. When Matilda is at rest, she is perfectly still. As you can see, when she walks she is shaky and may fall over from time to time. The good news is other than the CH, she is a perfectly healthy cat and her condition will not worsen over time. She uses a litter box and enjoys human company. She came from a home with other kitties as well and seems fairly tolerant of the dogs she has met.
To adopt Matilda, you will need to apply at munciearf.com . Her $90 adoption fee will help cover her spay, microchip, and shots.
We think Matilda is purrfectly imperfect, and she is hoping to find a person who is looking for just that!
This is the story of Daisy. Daisy’s story is actually fairly common. Small details may be different, but the main plot is similar.
🐾 A Good Samaritan took in Daisy, her sister, and another male cat all around the same time. She didn’t have the funds to have any of them fixed, but she loved them and didn’t want to get rid of any of them. Then, as nature will have it, the kitties got older, and both Daisy and her sister wound up pregnant.
🐾 On Sunday, Daisy’s story took an unexpected turn. Daisy had four kittens; and after the fourth she was still contracting. These contractions caused her uterus to partially prolapse. Her owner knew this wasn’t good- and called every vet she could find a number for only to find either they weren’t open on Sundays, or the estimate was several thousand dollars. Her mom didn’t have the ability to pay for or finance a surgery, and so she had to wait until Monday and pray help would come.
🐾 On Monday morning, she brought Daisy and the kittens to ARF, desperate for help by this point. By sheer coincidence, we had a vet scheduled that day. Typically we only have a vet on Fridays, but this week wasn’t typical and we had a vet. So Daisy was signed over to ARF so we could perform the lifesaving procedure she needed at no cost to mom. It was determined that even with newborn kittens, she had to be spayed immediately because in addition to her uterus being prolapsed, there was also a retained fetus that her body couldn’t birth which is what caused the prolapse in the first place. Without a spay, Daisy would die.
🐾 Daisy was prepped for surgery, our amazing vet was able to spay her, and Daisy was closely monitored during recovery and then returned to her kittens as quickly as was safe. Daisy is now being fostered by her owner, and once she gets a clean bill of health she will be adopted back by her owner. Her owner will pay an adoption fee, and the rest of her surgery will be paid for by a program called the
Phillip has spent almost his entire life at ARF and he has a great life as he LOVES other cats… he is truly the sweetest soul. ❤️
After arriving sick and fragile in December 2023, Phillip spent time in a foster home gaining strength. Now he’s healthy, just over a year old, and still waiting for his forever home.
Despite everything he’s been through, Phillip has become a father figure to every kitten that comes into his room — always gentle, patient, and loving. But Phillip needs a family of his own, and a furry friend to keep him company since he gets lonely.
Could you be the one to give Phillip the love he’s been waiting for?

Quagy and Asher having fun!!
Maximus out and about as well!! He is a good boy too!!
Amigo out and about!! He was such a good boy!!
🐾 Hola, Amigos 🐾
Amigo (who was named Amigo because he looks so much like Pal, the ARF dog that just went home), is SO smart and ready to become your best amigo!
Amigo’s adoption fee has been waived because he was displaying signs of being stressed in the kennel. We were able to move him to the quiet isolation kennel in the back by himself when Pal got adopted, and that has already helped so much!
With an approved application, Amigo can go home free of charge to you! If you can’t provide a veterinarian reference for current or past pets, we do require a home visit for our pets with no fees. We do not want an adoption fee to be a barrier to adoption, but we also want to make sure that the home is safe and will provide a loving environment for our pets.
Amigo arrived with a doggy friend, and we think he would be fine in most homes. He will be neutered tomorrow, and receive the rest of his shots, his microchip, and his heartworm test as well.

Sometimes we need to bring an animal into our lives simply because they need us. Sweet Nibbler is one of those babies. She was found wandering alone, outside not in very good condition. A kind man took her into his garage until she came to ARF. Upon arrival we found her eyes were set back very far causing her vision to be compromised. She startles easily and tends to keep to herself but is a very sweet girl who deserves to know the comfort and security of her very own home and family. Are you that person who didn't know until now that you needed a kitty? If so, Nibbler is your purrfect girl!!
