Wow, it's already September?! Where did the Summer go? 😭 Have no fear, we still have plenty of warm months ahead (fingers crossed 🤞). With that being said, we'd like to welcome our new fans! Thanks so much for joining us!

If you haven't heard of us before, we have a small piece of property in Mundelein where we grow fruits, veggies, herbs, and more. We start seedlings indoors in the Spring, we do a lot of sourdough baking, make personal care products, and a lot more! Recently we've been working with our native elderberry bush to make elderberry syrup, which has been going well!

Update on the Elderberry Syrup. We have two 2oz jars left but I brought the cooler inside. Just message me and I'll be happy to hand it out to you :) Or I can put the cooler back out of you prefer contactless but it's way too hot to keep the cooler out all day, unfortunately. Well we may be back on the baking bandwagon... fingers crossed, my (Erin) eczema is much better and with the help of special gloves and other instruments I may be able to make it work... Just whipped up a double batch of whole wheat pizza dough for later this weekend. Stay tuned... 🤞

Good morning, everyone! It's a beautiful day here in Mundytown (Mundelein, for those who don't live here ;) ) and we're planning to whip up a huge batch of.... Elderberry Syrup! 😍

Have you heard of Elderberry Syrup? Do you know it's benefits? Well let's go!

Elderberries grow on native bushes here in America. The bush grows these enormous flowers heeds with hundreds of tiny white flowers that smell wonderful! Soon, those tiny white flowers begin to grow even tinier green berries that grow to deep purple little pops of deliciousness! There are so many you cannot count, and so many flower heads of these berries that you'll be picking them for days by hand! So instead, we cut the whole head off the plant and throw it in a bag. Into the freezer the bag goes until we're ready to use them. Just shake the bag vigorously and the berries come right off the heads! Now you can use those berries any way you like. Our favorite is elderberry syrup, which is a wonderful way to get your immune system in order.

We use our very own elderberries, local honey, ceylon cinnamon, organic ginger powder, organic clove, and filtered water. Boil everything but the honey, let cool, strain the liquid into another pot, and add in the honey. Let cool fully and then bottle it up! Elderberry Syrup is great on its own. For daily use, take one tsp (teaspoon) per day. If you're feeling ill, take one TBSP (tablespoon) every three hours until symptoms subside. Elderberry Syrup is best kept refrigerated for up to three months from creation date.

There is absolutely no better feeling than making food from your garden. Fresh tomatoes and basil for this grilled cheese with bacon and tomato with tomato soup. Earlier we had bagel sandwiches which also had fresh arugula and tomatoes from the garden.

Look at the color of that tomato! Green, red, and yellow all in one delicious ripe fruit! We hope to get a lot more like these this summer. 🤗

Holy moly, WE HAVE GARLIC!

Nine heads total - Two large, five medium, and two small/tiny. All heads are formed. This is so exciting!

Now to replant and hope for a late fall crop, or they should be good under ground if well mulched over the winter for a spring crop.

Happy Friday, everyone! We've been super busy wrangling a toddler and yardening big time. Our pond is finally coming together. We won a fish at Libertyville Days on Father's Day, so of course he had to join our big boys in the water. In addition to using mosquito dunks, it's important to keep hungry fish in your ponds and rain barrels so they can eat the mosquito larvae. Pond water is also amazing fertilizer for our plants. I'll try to get some close up photos later on, but here's our pond as it sits today.

Tomorrow our Little D has soccer practice, then we're checking out the Mundelein Farmers Market and returning a wood chipper to the Mundelein Tool Library . Then D is heading to a birthday party while Mom and Dad head home to do more yard work. If time permits and the Gods let it be (House of the Dragon reference ;) ) we will head North to our friends in Winthrop Harbor for a BBQ and fireworks. Sunday is a whole other beast...
