ADOPTABLE 🐕 ALERT

👻 BOO!

We don't mean to scare you, but BOO has been waiting to find his furever home for over two months 😱 He has been hanging out in since the holidays, and his temporary humans have such good things to say about him!

Boo is about 2.5 years old and weighs a hearty 70lbs. He loves snuggling, especially with his favorite toys! Boo is housebroken and likes going for rides in the car 🚗

🐾 Boo has done well with other dogs We have no history of him living with cats. Please remember to practice slow introductions to any resident pets!

Five fun facts about CINCO

Uno. CINCO is house trained, crate trained and doesn't get up on the furniture.

Dos. CINCO has lived with children and is friendly with visitors.

Tres. CINCO has lived with another 🐕 and has done well in play groups here at the shelter. In fact having another 🐕 in the 🏡 will help bring out the best in CINCO

Quatro. CINCO loves to play with toys by himself and plays with people too. His favorite toys squeak and he ❤️ to chew on Kong bones. His favorite treats are Charlee bear snacks.

Cinco. CINCO is simply a sweet 10 month old 🐶 looking for a new 🏡 because his first family had a 🏠 🔥 and couldn't keep him.

There are many famous Captains... evil Captain Hook, brave Captain America and Captain Jack Sparrow the ☠️ pirate. Our CAPTAIN isn't famous and doesn't have a second name but he sure is a notoriously lovable 🐈! CAPTAIN is 3 years old and so handsome. He maybe 17 pounds but it fits his frame perfectly. He is affectionate, playful and calm.... all the traits you looking for in a companion! Just one look into those eyes and you'll know he's the 🐈 for you.

Happy Endings Make Us SMILE! 😄

You may recognize Josh and Amy from previous posts over the years. They adopted their first pet from us back in 2018; Sunshine Ray was a sweet senior girl dumped at the Shelter and overlooked because of her cancer diagnosis. After two wonderful years together, Josh and Amy helped Sunshine cross the Rainbow Bridge having known nothing but patience, love, and sunshine in her golden years 🌞 Josh and Amy continued to return to Humane Indiana, adopting fearful Joey and special needs Star in 2020 and 2023, respectively.

Fast forward to this weekend, Josh and Amy stopped in to share that they might be ready to add another pup to their pack, having lost Star and another beloved dog, Ichabod, in the past year. They immediately fell in love with sweet and shy Harley, despite not matching their "usual" criteria. Originally just coming to look, Josh and Amy knew they were ready to welcome Harley into their home the very same day.

Not only have these amazing folks continued to adopt, Josh's band also released an album around the time of Star's adoption from which all proceeds benefitted our Shelter. This weekend, they very graciously donated to sponsor the adoption fees of THREE additional Shelter dogs!

🙏 We are continuously astounded by Josh and Amy's generosity and are so grateful to have them as part of our community 💕 Please join us in thanking Josh and Amy for their ongoing support of our Shelter, and congratulating them on adding Harley to the family!

When you hear the name LEO you think of a 🦁. Our LEO may have a mane like a Lion but he is really just a fluffy lap 🐕! LEO was adopted as a younger 🐶 puppy but he is back with us. LEO is only 6 months old and only32 pounds. He truly loves to be with you and you can see his joyfulness once he is comfortable. LEO'S fur is luxurious and silky and his demeanor elfin like. ADOPTABLE DOG 🐕 ALERT

Meet ROOFUS!

This guy got his name because he was rescued by a fireman 👨‍🚒 from the ROOF of an abandoned home 🏡 We estimate that ROOFUS is about a year old and weighs only 49 pounds, but he can stand to gain a few pounds. We have discovered that ROOFUS is gentle, playful, friendly and loves treats 😋 He also enjoys a good butt scratch!

ROOFUS has seen some tough times but that hasn't deterred him at all. Come meet this goofy guy.... he will steal your heart 💙 !

Today we celebrate our Kennel Manager Analisa! As the leader of our Animal Care Team, Analisa ensures every pet in our Shelter gets exceptional care while they await their furever homes 🏡 Most days, Analisa is the first to arrive and last to leave, making sure to stop in with each pet for dedicated one-on-one time. Analisa will always lend a helping hand to Volunteers and other Staff members.

Re-Introducing Honey and Ginger!

❄️ Cold weather got you feeling down? Honey and Ginger are the perfect remedy! These sweet bonded sisters have been posted before, but since they've been thriving in care we have gotten such great info about their home habits.

Honey and Ginger are 3 years old and are reportedly housebroken, crate-trained, and walk well on their leash. Honey is the smaller and more playful of the two 🤪 while big sister Ginger prefers a snuggle session 🥰 Both girls love attention and are working on basic commands like Sit and Paw. Your free week of GoodPup training well help these gals learn even more skills as they settle into their furever home 🏡

Meet Sadie, Samuel, Saturina, Sawyer, and Sebastian! This crew was surrendered to our Shelter last month, and after spending some time in Foster they are ready to find their furever homes 🏡

These spirited siblings are just under 4 months old and weigh 15-20lbs, but they still have plenty of growing left to do! In Foster, each of the pups worked on socializing with people and resident pets, as well as started on house-training and basic manners. Through our partnership with GoodPup app, you can build your custom training plan to help your new pup settle into their new daily routine.

🐾 All puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines. You also get vet coupons, shopping coupons, a sample bag of food, and lifelong support from Humane Indiana when you adopt 🩵

Meet Harley!

Transferred in from one of our local Animal Control partners last month, Harley immediately stole our hearts 🩷 After spending some time in Foster, we have confirmed that Harley is a certified sweetheart!

Harley is about a year old and weighs just over 55lbs. She loves to snuggle and play, and snack on peanut butter 😋 Harley is housebroken, crate-trained, and knows a few basic commands. With your free week of training through GoodPup, we know Harley will settle into your home routine in no time.

🐾 Harley has done well with dogs of all sizes and is very playful with other pups! We are not sure how she would feel about sharing her home with cats. Always remember that slow introductions to resident pets are a must!

📣 The Doctor is IN and we have walk-in availability for Community Medicine today!

Qualifying clients can bring their pets in Tuesday, February 11th for low-cost vaccinations, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and wellness exams for acute conditions. Clients must meet at least one of the following qualifications:

🐾 Resident of Gary, Hammond, East Chicago, or Merrillville
🐾 Income-based Government Assistance Programs
🐾 Social Security Disability
🐾 Pitbull/pitbull mixes
🐾 First Responder, Veteran, or Active Military
