Check your dog for foxtails! A team member's dog just had a huge vet bill due to one migrating through her dog's cheek!

Foxtails are invasive, prickly grasses with arrow-tailed seeds. If your dog gets on the wrong end of a foxtail, the barb’s arrow shape burrows inside your dog’s body and into their skin. As a result of being stuck, foxtails can cause infections and abscesses.

Foxtails commonly enter your dog’s body through:
- Paws
- Nostrils
- Ears
- Mouth

Beyond excessive licking, other signs of a foxtail include rubbing or scratching a particular area, the presence of a wound that doesn’t seem to heal, and red or swollen skin.

If you can easily see the foxtail, pulling it out with tweezers is okay if your dog lets you. Try to get as close to the base of the foxtail as possible so you don’t accidentally break it and leave pieces behind in your dog’s skin. If it has burrowed too far, surgical removal is necessary.

More pets are lost during the July 4th fireworks than any other time of the year! Please make sure your dog has on a collar at all times and has an up-to-date microchip!

Microchipping is available at PAWS of Rutherford County, TN. Hours for microchips before July 4th are Tuesday & Wednesday from 12:00-1:30 and 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Microchips are $15, and include a lifetime registration. No appointment is necessary - walk-ins only - first-come, first-served.

This past Thursday, Beesley held its Quarterly Pet Food Distribution, providing 343 pounds of food to 95 pets throughout Rutherford County. Additionally, we supported First United Methodist Church Woodbury, TN by sending 320 pounds of pet food for their quarterly Mobile Pantry. We are so very grateful for everyone's donations, our volunteers, and those constantly sharing our social media posts to reach as many people and pets as possible! THANK YOU! 🐾 ❤

"I just had a spaw day and I feel amazing! Let's go home!"

"My name is Dottsy, and I am the most adorable, playful girl around! I'm house trained, have the biggest smile and an even bigger heart! I have lots of energy, but I'll cuddle with you and keep you warm all night. I was found in Murfreesboro starving and darting in and out of a busy intersection on December 23rd. I've had a very hard start to life and was in bad shape when my foster family rescued me. But I've been fed so well, now I weigh 55 pounds! The best fit for me is a home with no kids or older kids. I was starving when I was found so I still tend to take food from little hands. I'd prefer to be your only pet. (I'll give you enough love, you wouldn't need another pet anyway!)" Her foster family says, "Dottsy loves people! She's a big lap dog and she loves treats and food. Now that she's been inside she doesn't seem to want to spend a lot of time outside. She loves her cozy bed and blankets. She is precious and grunts like a pig when she is cozy and relaxed. Our 2-year-old dog is very territorial and has fought her a few times, so she needs her own loving home as soon as possible. We can foster her until a good fit is found and we have all of her vet records. Dottsy has all of her shots and has been receiving flea & tick preventative and heartworm meds. She will need to continue being treated for heart worms for 8 months to one year. Let's find this sweet girl her new home!

Vader is a 2-year-old Standard Poodle, rescued by one of our groomers. He's being fostered at Doggie's Day Out and is looking for his forever home! He's extremely gentle & sweet, loves to cuddle and looks super cool in sunglasses! He could potentially be a service dog because he's so smart. He does not do well in a kennel.
