🐾 Extreme Heat Warning for Murray and the surrounding area 🐾
This isn't just "summer weather." With heat index values climbing as high as 105 to 115 degrees, it can become dangerous for our pets in minutes.
Please remember:
☀️ A parked car can become deadly incredibly fast. Cracking the windows is not enough. Even on a warm day, the temperature inside a vehicle can rise about 20 degrees in the first 10 minutes.
🐶 Dogs don't sweat like we do. They cool themselves by panting, which becomes much less effective in hot, humid weather. Heatstroke can happen quickly, especially in senior dogs, puppies, overweight pets, flat-faced breeds, and dogs with heart or breathing problems.
🌳 If your dog is outside, they need:
• Plenty of fresh, cool water
• Constant access to shade
• Frequent breaks indoors with air conditioning whenever possible
• Walks early in the morning or after sunset
🔥 Watch for heavy panting, excessive drooling, bright red gums, vomiting, weakness, confusion, or collapse. Those are signs of overheating and require immediate veterinary care.
As someone who loves caring for your pets, I'm asking everyone to keep an extra eye on them this week. Check on your neighbors' pets too. A few minutes of kindness can save a life.
Stay safe, stay cool, and give your furry family members an extra hug from me. ❤️🐾
