This week is Pet Appreciation Week
To pets, pet owners are their entire world, and they depend on their humans to take care of them. In return, pet owners can spoil their pets more than they already do during this week. Some ideas on how you can spoil your fur babies are get them a new toy, teach them a new trick, spend some quality time with them doing something they love (going on a walk, taking them to the park, throwing a ball, give them some catnip treats, play with them with string and feathers)
Not everyone is a pet owner, and some people may love and appreciate pets but don’t have the time to devote to one, and that’s okay! Non-pet owners can celebrate the week in other ways, such as: donate items, volunteer or look for ways to spend time with the animals to your local animal shelter

It's National Animal Care and Control Officer Appreciation Week!
The week is designed to thank and show appreciation to all the animal control officers who are dedicated to helping pets and people in the community every day. Animal control officers pick up stray animals, seek justice in cases of abused, neglected, and abandoned animals, and conduct humane investigations and bring in helpless animals. They protect animals from abusers and people from dangerous animals while working to reunite lost pets with their owners. Thank you for everything you do.

This week is National Dog Bite Prevention Week
Dogs are sweet, loving, and therapeutic but, at the end of the day, they are animals, and they can bite. Although dogs are part of the family and provide companionship and immense joy, they can bite as well. And when they bite, it’s painful and dangerous. An estimated 4.5 million people in the U.S., mostly children, are bitten by dogs annually and 20% of those require immediate medical attention. Please pay attention to body language when trying to love on any of our canine friends.

April is National Heartworm Awareness and Canine Fitness Month
More than a million pets in the United States have heartworms. Heartworm affects an animal’s health and quality of life long after the heartworms are gone.
Heartworm is a serious and often fatal disease of dogs and cats, and is preventable with heartworm testing yearly and monthly oral preventatives. If you would like information on testing or preventative medication please call the clinic and we are happy to help.
Canine Fitness Month focuses on keeping our most loyal companions healthy and physically active. Obesity in dogs can cause sore joints, difficulty breathing, a higher risk of cancer, and canine diabetes. Canine obesity is the most common preventable condition.
Some ways to help your dog stay fit are
- Going for walks or hikes
- Playing fetch and tug of war
- Playing at doggy daycare or dog parks
- Using food mats or maze bowls to slow down eating
- Create a fun obstacle course in your back yard
If you are concerned about your dog being overweight make sure to talk to a doctor about the best steps for weight loss during their next exam.

March is National Pet Poison Prevention Month

It’s not something we often think about, but there are a number of items in and around our homes that are toxic to our pets. With any potential dangers, it is important to keep them out of paws’ reach. While accidents can happen, the less accessible these items are, the less likely your pet is to get into them!
The most common signs of ingestion are vomiting, diarrhea, excessive drooling, lack of coordination, weakness and lethargy, excessive thirst and urination, and unusual behavior

Please consider donating if you can or if you are looking for a new fur baby or just looking to start fostering, check out there website at rescuerovers.org or follow them on their page https://www.facebook.com/RescueRoversAdoptions to see where they are holding their next adoption event during the first and third Saturday of every month. Rescue Rovers will accept feline donations as well and distribute them to local charities in our area.
