June is National Adopt a Cat Month!

If you or someone you know is looking for a sweet feline companion, send them to your local animal shelter or humane society to adopt a cat. More often than not our shelters are over capacity with loving animals that need a good home. Every animal deserves a second chance ❤️

Today is Heat Awareness Day, and we want to make sure everyone is prepared for the brutal summer heat!

The high temperatures in our area can be dangerous for our furry friends. However, there are some things you can do to prevent heat stroke! A few things you can do to make sure your pet is comfortable are: make sure they have access to fresh and clean water at all times, make sure they have access to shade, check the concrete/pavement (if it's too hot for your feet it's too hot for their paws!), and supply your pet with a shallow puppy pool or cooling pad.

Some days are just too hot, and it may be best for your pet to stay inside. Brachycephalic breeds such as Pugs, French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Boxers, Boston Terriers, etc. cannot tolerate heat as well. Be mindful if you own one of these breeds.

Lastly, if your pet is experiencing heat stroke - call us immediately so that we can assist you and your pet. Heat stroke is considered an emergency, and can be life threatening! Stay safe this summer☀️🐾

Chunky had to have his own photo shoot because there wasn’t enough space in the treat jar for a sibling, but we don’t judge! We like treats too 😉

May 6-12th is Dog Anxiety Awareness Week. With the weather this week you may notice your dog feeling a bit anxious. Anxiety can be caused by multiple factors including separation from owners, thunderstorms, past traumatic experiences, etc. Thankfully, there are a few things we can try to help ease your pets anxiety. If your dog is struggling with anxiety, call our office to schedule an appointment with one of our doctors!

It’s CSR week!🎉

For this years CSR week we’d like to celebrate and thank our hardworking Client Service Representatives. Our Client Service Representatives do so much for our clinic each and every day, and we couldn’t do what we do without them. Their smiling faces are the first thing you’ll see as you enter our clinic. They are here to help in any way, from scheduling appointments, answering questions, giving estimates, checking patients in and out, and offer kindness and guidance when you need it most. Please help us thank our full time CSRs Angela, Emily, and Kasey. We’d also like to thank our part time CSRs Riana and Kali!

It’s Heartworm Awareness Month, so let’s talk about it!🪱 We will also go over some common tick-borne diseases while we’re at it.

Dogs can easily get heartworms and tick-borne diseases, but prevention is key. Heartworms are transmitted by infected mosquitoes and tick-borne diseases are transmitted through a tick bite.

If your pet becomes ill, bring him or her in so we can run some tests. Luckily, we are able to run a test in-house that tests for 4 things: heartworms, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis, and Lyme disease. Remember, your pet may be infected but not show signs or symptoms, so it’s a good idea to test annually!

We recommend giving your pet prevention every 30 days year round. With summer right around the corner it’s time to test and get started, if you haven’t already!

Helpful tip for people using the PetDesk app!

If you are requesting an appointment through the app please remember to specify your doctor preference. This helps our client service representatives make sure your appointment is scheduled properly! If you are not a PetDesk user but are interested in downloading the app, go to your App Store to download. This app is great for pet parents! It keeps track of your pets medical history, such as yearly vaccinations and lab testing, and you can also request refills on your pets medication.

We’d like to introduce you to Dr. West!

Dr. Ruth West graduated from the University of Florida with a Master of Agriculture in 2007 and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Dr. West became certified in Veterinary Acupuncture in 2010 and also became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner in 2015. She is excited to introduce acupuncture and canine rehabilitation to the clients of Westside Veterinary Services.

Dr. West is currently taking appointments on Mondays and Fridays. Call our office to schedule!

March is Poison Prevention Awareness Month!🦠

Spring is right around the corner and some common household products you’re getting ready to use may be harmful to your pet. These products include cleaning supplies, lawn/garden items, pest/rodent control products, and more. These can be very toxic, and even fatal if left untreated.

Remember to keep all poisonous products away from pets to prevent ingestion! If your pet decides to consume any of these products, or other toxins, please call us immediately!
