“A dog is born wild . . . he must be trained to be free.”

“So when we set out to train our pup to be mannerly, our influence should cause the dog to learn that by being subordinate, in other words by occupying that part of its temperament that puts it into harmony with our needs and wishes, the dog nevertheless experiences his highest degree of gratification. From the dog’s point of view, he feels in control of what’s happening because his greatest drive is being satisfied and in terms of group purpose, rather than any individual’s self-interest. Being in his place has to work for a dog, his instincts need to be gratified”

Making waves, in the waves! 🌊 Thelma puts all her energy into hunting birds at the beach. As soon as she sees a bird it’s petal straight to the metal. While it’s beautiful to see such drive, she feels stuck in the surge and never gets the fulfillment of grounding that charge ripping through her! So until she can manage her own energy it’s our job to help her re-learn how. Using the high collar technique from Natural Dog Training we remind her what it feels like to be in neutral and not a slave to always being full throttle. Next we help her find her breath with a good speak, one of the . Good Job Themla 💞🐾🐶 . . . Do you feel like your dog can’t focus when outside or around distractions, it may be that they just forgot how! Follow and like to see Thelma’s journey and how we use Natural Dog Training to rebuild that true rapport every dog is born with. They evolved to be our best friends after all 👌😊

Met these sweet doggies the other day and took them for a walk. The owner had been working with a trainer to stop their pulling on walks. It's an approach I have not seen yet and while very creative it seemed to actually work against the ultimate goal of moving well together. As you can see
the feedback from the leash was not communicating to the dogs the message the owner was trying to convey "it feels better to walk with me".

Due to the heat it was important that I was able to keep them off pavement and not interrupt any panting (how dogs cool down). So I switched the leashes to a traditional slip and within minutes of meeting and walking these dogs for the first time, we were walking in harmony.

When you use the right tool the right way it's easy to communicate what you want. Follow and like for more training tips on the Doggie's Day Off Difference using Kevin Bean's Natural Dog Training Method.

This is what the Doggies Day Off difference is all about! Achillies is a fun and happy doggie who thanks to his awesome owners has been able to hold onto a lot of that soft puppy nature. Unfortunately there was one “problem” Achillies was having (much like his name sake it had to do with feet ☺️), nail clipping did not feel good! This is where DDOs Stress-Less grooming comes in. The goal was not just to clip Achillies nails but to do it in a way that resolved his past fears surrounding it. Needless to say both doggie and owners are feeling much better! The best part is that Achillies can carry this good feeling into future grooming sessions with his owners/groomer 👌🐶 Natural Dog Training

“Likewise, the dog doesn’t have to actually kill a moose to enjoy the feeling of its emotional battery being drained. The charge may have initially been triggered by a moose, but the feeling of draining its battery by playing with me is emotionally the same as that of taking down the moose. Finally, once the desired behaviors of heel, sit, down, stay, and coming when called have been integrated into the push-of-war game, they too become part and parcel of what bringing a moose to ground feels like. Of course, there’s natural precedent for these linkages because when wolves hunt they perform exactly these behaviors at various stages of the enterprise. we’re not trying to take the dog’s energy away from him; we’re merely showing him what to do with his energy and in a manner wholly consistent with his temperament, the domestication of dogs, and the evolution of the wolf itself.”

Your Dog Is Your Mirror

“A harmonic pathway is when the individuals are on a common wavelength with a common purpose. Uninhibited play between dogs is a very pure example. The muscles are soft not stiff, tails are high and freely waving, and eyes are bright and alive. Emotional juices flow fast leaving the participants happily exhausted at play's end. ”

“Inside our chest beats a wild animal. It was never domesticated. It can’t be tamed, it can’t be conditioned, and it can’t be trained. It knows no reason. When we were young, we lived in harmony with this animal. We lived by heart. If understanding our dog means understanding ourselves, then we need to look at ourselves, and at the cost of domestication to us.” 📚 by Kevin Began Natural Dog Training

08/05/2022

“The object of all behavior, no matter the action, no matter the species, is to return to a state of weightlessness from which all animals, even birds, are expelled at birth. . . there is only one place in the body where the experience of weightlessness is centered and can be felt, and all anatomy, physiology, and neurology evolved in service to this organ: the heart. This “emotional center of gravity” may not be material — it is both heart and Heart — in the same way that there isn’t any site or organ in the body that we can point to as the body’s physical center of gravity, or even its consciousness. But somehow, we maintain our equilibrium and our awareness, and the working of the mechanism fades into the background like an ever-present white noise. Nevertheless, Heart is indeed what’s most real about being conscious, especially vivid when it’s about to be lost.” 💞

“As you read these stories you will see that whenever I was properly humble and willing to let something besides a human be my instructor, these various four-legged, six-legged and no-legged fellows shared priceless wisdom with me. Enzo, a Belgian Malinois from Abu Dhabi, was starting to show aggression to strangers and nipping at children. Amna, her owner, started reading Kevin’s book Your Dog is Your Mirror and realized she wanted to find a deeper rapport with Enzo and not just correct her behavior.

This video is their first zoom lesson where they are learning the first core exercise of Natural Dog Training, Pushing. You see Enzo keeps giving her energy to other people and kids rather then moving it with Amna. So instead they are learning to move together. As Enzo feels like she can invest more energy into Amna she will waste less of it on her “problem” behaviors.

If you don’t show your dog how good it feels to move it’s energy with you they will learn to put it somewhere else! Want to know more!? Digital training means you can learn anywhere! Call or message us today 🐾🤗🐶

Before we ask our dog to do something so unnatural, like staying connected to us while prey is walking about or big vibrating lawn mowers are buzzing around, we must first instill a trust and understanding that behaviors such as stay and heel are part of what gets them what they want. Once the dog feels that these desired behaviors also access their own desires then cooperation can be achieved.

This is what makes Natural Dog Training so different. Kevin created his method in a way that a dog can feel like all their natural instincts and drives can be fulfilled by performing the actions and behaviors desired by their owners. It is only by working together that everyone can get what they want. To learn more about this unique training perspective, call or message us today! 🐺🦆🚜 💪

“A dog is born wild, he learns stress; he must be trained to be free.”

“Owning and training a dog affords us the chance to make contact with our dog’s wildness so that he can live free in our lives. The experience can only help us to be more human, more deeply connected to nature. To refrain from hitting a dog is not, in itself, enough. His prey instinct must also be actively developed, for it controls a valve within him that, once opened, makes him innocent and amenable to any group purpose. It isn’t how much love you try to give your dog, it’s how much of your love your dog is open to receive. A master’s role is to expand on that brief snippet of freedom that nature affords in life until it becomes fixed as a character trait.” ~ 💻Natural Dog Training blog.

Training gives you a dog that performs the behavior you want, but is your dog getting what they want? They get treats, food, toys, affection, and walks, but what about their natural drives and instincts? Dogs came into our lives via shared purpose, the hunt. Wolves who evolved to work together in harmony with humans. Somewhere along the way this connection has became lost for a majority of house pets. Doggies Day Off is about giving life back to this connection and helping dogs and owners experience the roots of what created this best friendship. Do you want a dog that just does what you say or do you want a dog that feels fulfilled in working with you? Call or message us today! 🇨🇱 Miller 🐺 Amanda L Matoske 📸

Don’t let the name fool you, we believe all animals deserve a special experience! Lady is a very happy but sensitive kitty cat. Her owners were concerned about finding a care taker for her durning their trip. You see, she would not hesitate to “say no” if she felt uncomfortable but thankfully the principles on Natural Dog Training allowed for us to interact with her in a way that made her feel at ease. 😺💞🐾

“Emotion is energy in motion, it is literally a wave of motion. Emotion is a wave moving through us.” ~ Kevin Behan 📚The Body Language of Dogs

This concept is never more apparent then when observing a dog in play! Watching Achilles run and swim, seeing the movement and feeling of weightlessness in his very being. The problem for Achilles arises when things aren’t moving fast enough, he becomes disconnected from thy feeling of flow and instead feels blocked. He compensates for this feeling by barking, which while effective to keep that wave moving, causing some distress on the part of his owners in certain situations. So while taking Achilles to his favorite swim spot we also take advantage of the boardwalk benches and lower distraction grassy areas to play the collecting game developed by Kevin. Achilles starts to feel that even when he is not moving the wave of emotion can still flow through him and the barking behavior is no longer needed.

Doggies Day Off is all about learning through play using the Natural Dog Training method. Give your dog the gift of an experience he craves while reinforcing the obedience you want! Message or call today to learn more!! L MatoskeeNatural Dog Trainingg

“It’s easy to control a self-confident dog because a dog-in-drive is in control of its instincts; whereas it’s extremely hard work, if not impossible, to control a fearful or nervous dog given that its instincts will be in charge. . . the "feeling" of being in a "rhythm" or "groove" that in the immediate moment feels good and which ultimately leads the dog to the condition of feeling fulfilled.” ~ Kevin Behan📚 Natural Dog Training

How was your dog feeling over this holiday weekend!? Did you spend all your time worrying and coddling them? Both you and your dog don’t have to be stuck in this anxious state every time a neighbor is celebrating or a thunderstorm rolls in. Just because your dog is fearful now doesn’t mean they have to always live by that fear. Take gun dogs for example they hear the loud bang of a gun, and instead of triggering their fear instincts, they feel drive and motivation for it granting access to the thing they want most. Prey. But you can’t teach them this through reassurance, in fact if you reassure them when they are afraid your are reinforcing that state of fear. Learn more about how you can use their hunting instincts to switch from fearful to fulfilled, contact us today! 💥

It’s like having a whole amusement park open just for you and your doggie! Baloo had so much fun running around , swimming, sniffing and exploring the dog park. Because he wasn’t distracted by all his doggie friends he stayed engaged and we were able to work on some fun off leash training games like hide-n-go-seek to promote his recall.

“If your dog looks away, or jumps at you, or stares fixedly, then its subliminal beam of attention is referencing its inner ear canal, and it’s trying to off-load pressure. If your dog sits, licks its lips, or breaks the intensity of its gaze with a softening of expression, then it is referencing the little brain in its gut. If a deep bark resonates from the very pit of its stomach, its entire body flexing from the sit position as if the bark were riding out of its body on a wave, then it is referencing its heart; because its two brains are completely reconciled, it has projected its emotional center of gravity into your heart and is feeling that by looking into your eyes.” ~ Kevin Behan 📚 Natural Dog Training

Old man Hunter’s day off at the beach was a sight to behold. While his body may not be able to keep up with his puppy dog heart, he was still able to enjoy his favorite beach things and feel the heart connection with those around him. Like the waves of the ocean we move feeling back and forth between ourselves and those we interact with. 💞🐾🌊

“To understand more fully the relationship of the prey drive to social life, consider the emotions of a puppy. He is so deliriously happy with life and every being he finds in it, simply because he can find something biteworthy in all of it. . . A hand, a tail, a leaf, anything that moves, is to be pounced on and examined for its crunching potential. . . A puppy's state of being totally uninhibited is the first phase of a flexible prey drive and it is the bedrock of sociability. When a puppy is attracted to a living being through his prey drive then he feels strongly connected to that being as if they are of his group.” ~ 📚

Meet Joey, a 12 week old basset hound. This little guy is the embodiment of a deliriously happy puppy! What started as leisure walks to give his owner some puppy free time to focus on her yoga or cleaning turned into a fun training opportunity. After every walk she noticed he was so much more calm and relaxed, not looking to constantly mouth everything she touched or barking when things weren’t moving fast enough. Now after every walk we do a mini lesson on how to best nurture Joey’s soft social nature while encouraging more relaxed laid back behaviors. The first session was all about channeling that drive to bite into a toy as most people know even soft puppy mouthing can be a bit much on human skin. We are just not designed for those sharp puppy teeth but we also don’t want to suppress that drive only to have it come out in some other un structured way like Joey’s, chewing mom’s favorite flip flops! ☺️💞🐾🐶

“A state of weightlessness, which evolves into a feeling of resonance with one’s surroundings, can arise only through a connection with the external world. Therefore, what drives a dog is not in the dog itself. There is no social instinct or social gene inside a dog. Nor do dogs “learn” to be social. What bonds dogs to one another is the energy that moves between them so that through this bond all evolve into one, whether it’s a pair of dogs or a pack of ten. From then on, all the emotional energy of the group pivots around a common tipping point, the source of all feeling. The spark of a dog’s sentient awareness is not to be found in the brain behind those amazing eyes staring back into ours. That would be like taking apart a radio to find the source of the signal that animates its speakers.” ~ 📚 Natural Dog Training

Kevin spent most of his life quietly observing dogs, and in this patient study he was able to learn their true nature, even the true nature of ourselves.

Can you feel the weightlessness of Tucker in this moment as he enjoys feeling connected to the landscape and people outside of himself? Doggies Day Off is really all about creating experiences that lean into this state of weightlessness. Curious to learn more? Call or message us today! “working dog breeds are able to work as they do because they are able to enfold the work into their urge to hunt. What talented trainers accomplish is molding the training process to suit the canine hunting template. Search and rescue, police service work, narcotic detection, sheep herding, these are all variants of the hunt” ~

Using Roxy’s hunting template you can change how she feels. Dog evolved from wolves and both evolved to hunt. The difference being dogs evolved to hunt with us. By connecting with Roxy on this primitive level we can create a better rapport on which to build desired behaviors. Thomas Egeberg
