With snow finally starting here in Murrysville, we are wishing safe travels and warm homes to all our friends and patients!
For small or short-coated house dogs, consider a warm coat to protect their bodies from the chill when they are outside. For outside dogs and cats, be certain they have a warm and dry shelter to get into that will protect them, and always make sure they have a source of drinking water that doesn't freeze. The dry air and lower circulation from colder weather make dehydration as serious now in the winter as it is in the heat of summer.

Sometimes it’s difficult to visualize what hives would look like on a dog. A Great Dane owner in a group I am in posted this and gave me permission to share.

Hives can be just skin. But the swelling can also affect the throat and breathing so this needs to be addressed quickly!

Dr. Heller will be judging at the ferret show in Clearfield this weekend. Due to this hours will be changed a bit.

Friday we will be closing at 3 pm. Saturday we will be closing at 1 pm.

This is Remy. I saw him today to take out his staples after his surgery a couple of weeks ago. He’s doing great! Two weeks ago I removed a lobe of his liver because it was eaten through with cancer. He is gaining weight and much happier!

Earlier today, I had someone arrive for their appointment who walked in directly past the sign requiring a mask and a phone call prior to entering the building, having been told when they scheduled that we were requiring both, and when told that they were in fact, yes, going to be required to wear a mask, chose to walk out and leave rather than stay.

This past weekend, we had a couple tell us we were "still in the Dark Ages" for requiring masks, although, they, at least, honored the policy.

And one week ago, we received a phone call from a client a couple of hours after their appointment to tell us that they had just been diagnosed with COVID - and we were not all that worried because we had required masks on all parties.

Several of my staff CANNOT be vaccinated.

Borderbrook does and will continue to maintain a masking and distancing policy. That is not up for question and will not be changed.

I was unable to get out of my house and in to Borderbrook safely today, so we had to cancel appointments. My staff, however, made it in. Here is Socks being pleased that his servants are treating him properly!

Yesterday I saw a cat as an emergency, because its foot was swollen and it could not bear weight on it. Could have been a lot of things, especially since this cat goes outside - a bite, a broken bone, a foreign body...

What it was was a dewclaw (thumb nail) that had grown into the leg by almost a centimeter and created a horrible infection. Pus and blood was oozing from this very painful situation. Really nice cat, he purred in between crying as we assessed and helped him.

Folks, cats need nail care too!
