Meet Xena! Her appointment today was great. She is in remission from Disseminated Idiopathic Myositis (DIM), an autoimmune disease that has killed a large number of ferrets. Shes been fighting it with chemotherapy for months and is now doing very well. Happy New Year news for her family.

We will be closing at one pm on Christmas Eve and reopening on Thursday at 3 pm as regularly scheduled.

This is Holly and her daddy. She has lived with him for over two years and this is the first time she has allowed him to hold her!

He has spent two years building trust in this little, abused, and shut down dog.

It can happen. It just may take a lot longer than you expect it to.

Bun is an eight year old rabbit whose owners were told, when they got her, that she had been spayed. She came to see me last night because she wasn’t feeling well, had lost a bunch of weight in a couple of days, and had bloody urine. When I did her exam, I felt a large mass.

She had a uterine tumor. She did very well through a risky surgery and should recover nicely.

This is not uncommon in rabbits and is a very good reason why they should be spayed.

This is Precious. She came to see me this week to get a little lump on her foot checked out. While she was here, we discovered her secret.

Precious is a hero.

She spent some time a little while ago staring fixedly at her daddy’s chest. For several hours. He realized that she might be picking up on something and went to the hospital.

Where he was told that he had a severe arrhythmia and if he’d waited another eight or so hours he might have lost one half of his body to a stroke.

Precious really is.

Listen to your pets, people! They pick up on so much.

This weekend Dr. Heller will be judging at a ferret show and our hours will be curtailed due to that. On Friday the hospital will be closing early at three pm. On Saturday the office will be staffed only from nine until eleven am.

Normal hours will resume on Monday.
