Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Hailey Bowers. I am the breeder behind Great River Gladiator Danes. Every story has a beginning. Mine starts at a pretty young age. I have autism. As a kid, all I wanted to do was be around animals. My special interest was animals. I didn’t relate to people very well, but I loved animals. Animals always made sense to me. My parents go me into 4H and I started reading, breeding, and showing rabbits. Then I started raising chickens, goats, sheep, alpacas, horses, ducks, and cattle. I decided to go to collage for, no surprise, animal science. On top of my autism, I have an array of chronic illnesses. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissues disorder, that effects my joints and makes them pretty weak. I have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, also known as POTS, that is a neurological disorder that effects my heart and makes me pass out, and multiple other autonomic nervous disfunction disorders. I rely on a service dog every day to maintain any level of independence. Five years ago, while I was at BYU- Idaho studying animal science, I found out my service dog was going to need to retire way earlier than I had ever anticipated due to health issues. I started looking for a breeder that would have a puppy that fits my needs. I stumbled upon a breeder in Rigby, Idaho, called Teton Gladiators, ran by Celeste Rush. I saw two litters of puppies and had an instant connection to my girl Daya. So I made a deposit and the rest is history. Except it really isn’t. I became really close friends with the Celeste. I spent a lot of time with her and her dogs. At the time I was going to school for animal science. Any time I had free time I was wanting to go over. I washed puppies and walked dogs and just sat and chatted. I realized pretty fast that Daya loves being in a group of dogs. Last February, I decided it was time to get a second dog of my own. I was in a stable position to be getting a second dog, and I knew I wanted to train it to be my mobility support service dog. Enter Legend. My loveable goofball. Over the last five years, I have developed a love for not just any giant dog, or even gladiator Danes, but of the Teaton gladiator lines. There was an amazing story and an even more amazing person behind it all. Celeste was amazing, and she has become family to me. And all her dogs are fantastic. Well, this last fall, she decided she was going to have to stop breeding. I was heartbroken. Where was I going to get the rest of my dogs in the future? Long story short, I took over the breeding program. I brought home four new dogs. I have done a lot of research, and obviously been around for five years learning everything I could. I’m very excited to be taking over these lines and continuing something great. I love these dogs with all my heart, and I can’t wait to share the love these dogs bring to all the future family’s of my puppies.
