Muscatine Humane Society

Muscatine Humane Society Our goal: to find all of our animals loving, forever homes. We hold several fundraisers throughout the year.

The Muscatine Humane Society operates as an animal shelter and a city pound for stray animals as well as owner surrendered animals in our community and surrounding areas. Our mission is to educate the public about the importance of and dire necessity to spay and neuter their pets, to prevent the needless suffering that follows overpopulation. Concurrently, the Society provides a safe haven for los

t or abandoned animals until their owners or a new home can be obtained. The humane society is a privately owned non-profit organization which is funded by personal donations. Without fundraising the humane society would not be able to launch any new programs or fund new projects.

❗️Update Alert ❗️
We received this amazing message from Honey's new owners this morning and it warmed our hearts💕

"Wanted to give you a quick update on how Honey has been doing since I took her home last month.

It has been very rewarding emotionally to have Honey at home. I haven't seen a touch of behavior that I would consider "destructive." My experience of her is that she wants to simply be around people and lay in comfortable places, with the exception that she really seems to enjoy being outside as much as she can be. Going on walks (and recently the dog park where she really loves both chasing and being chased by other dogs who also want to play...she can MOVE when she wants to) is where you really get to see what she's about. She loves sniffing around/rooting around in leaves looking for interesting smells, watching the squirrels and rabbits that live in my neighborhood, and she really seems to enjoy jumping in the snow that we have had (even though her feet get cold but we solved that by getting her boots that she's willing to wear and a swanky red coat).

She does seem to get anxious when we leave, but is willing to go in her kennel and I've watched her on a camera; she settles down after about 15-20 minutes and then rests throughout the day on a comfortable kennel pad. The only time I've seen any trouble in her was when she managed to get out her kennel when I wasn't home because it wasn't latched properly and she ate a loaf of bread. I told her "You know, Honey, I'd have eaten a loaf of bread if I had the opportunity too; I'm not even mad about it."

Here are a few pictures of how she's been doing.

Thank you again for taking such good care of her and trusting us to give her a good second chance. "
