Our goal: to find all of our animals loving, forever homes. We hold several fundraisers throughout the year.

The Muscatine Humane Society operates as an animal shelter and a city pound for stray animals as well as owner surrendered animals in our community and surrounding areas. Our mission is to educate the public about the importance of and dire necessity to spay and neuter their pets, to prevent the needless suffering that follows overpopulation. Concurrently, the Society provides a safe haven for los

t or abandoned animals until their owners or a new home can be obtained. The humane society is a privately owned non-profit organization which is funded by personal donations. Without fundraising the humane society would not be able to launch any new programs or fund new projects.

Today was an absolute whirlwind but we got a few dogs adopted out and more are pending. Here's the biggest boy. 11 pounds at 7 weeks old!

I need one special person to help with dogs. Please do not apply unless you meet my criteria. I need someone from 7 am- 1 pm on Mon,Tuesday, Thursday, Fri and Saturdays to walk large, unruly,dogs from the indoor kennels to the outdoor kennels and back again when kennels are clean.You must be physically strong as they will spin, jump and drag you. They are young, strong, excited to go outside and they do pull on their leashes. You must love dogs and have patience and understanding. They go outside EVERY day. Some cleaning is also involved. Scooping yards and runs and washing100 plus food bowls every day. If you think this is a job for you, then please apply. Starting pay is $12.00 per hour with merit raises upon accomplishment. No phone calls please. Our hours are 10-4 weekdays and 10-2 Saturdays. We are closed Wed and Sun. Start immediately.

Here is , UNLUCKY LUCKY! He's had 3 homes that we know of. He has the urge to roam and be free and doesn't care to be tormented by small children. A large fenced yard would be his ticket to happiness.

And there's Jack. He's been at the shelter since he was a puppy. He's pretty much afraid of anything or anyone new but once he trusts you , his whole face lights up and he's all in!

4 years ago this little cutie came in with a cootie! Chris fixed her all up! ——————— Gross but cool. This poor girl had one when she came in. It took time but another made it’s way through to make an air hole. She was not in any pain during the extraction nor did she put up any fuss. Once it started to exit she did have a squeak of relief. The hole was flush with antibiotics and it’ll all be mended soon. “Cuterebra eggs are inhaled, swallowed, or enter the eyes or ears of rodents returning to their burrows (or dogs and cats sniffing around). Once inside their host, the eggs hatch and the larvae burrows though muscle and tissue to form a burrow with a round “breathing hole” in the animals skin.”
