It is with heavy hearts that we pass along the news of the passing of Dr. John Lowery, the much-loved veterinarian and former owner of Shoals Animal Hospital. Although it's been nearly 16 years since he donned his crisp white coat and entered our exam rooms, every day we are grateful for the wonderful clinic and pet owners he nurtured and served for over 40 years before his retirement. He is often remembered for his no-nonsense approach with pet-owners and the witty wisdom he shared freely with clients, friends, and employees. He learned most of his life lessons the hard way, never hesitating to be the first one to try something new. What an amazing life he led, and we were fortunate to have the chance to benefit from that. We have become aware that a microchip registry database (Save This Life) has permanently shut down.
This means that any pet that was registered through the Save This Life database is no longer registered and if the pet is lost/found, an owner can NOT be contacted.
We have used Save This Life microchips in the past and it is possible your pet may have a microchip currently unregistered.
We URGE you to check the status of your pet's microchip registration status by completing the following:

1) Have your pet's microchip number available. (if you do not know your pet's microchip number, call the provider that placed the chip)

2) Follow this link: https://www.aaha.org/for-veterinary-professionals/microchip-search/

3) Enter your pet's microchip number into the "microchip" field and wait for results

This search will show you what database your pet is CURRENTLY enrolled with.
If no database shows up, your pet's chip is not registered with any database, and you will need to register you and your pet's information as soon as possible.

There are many registration websites available, but may come with fees.

www.freepetchipregistry.com is a FREE microchip registration service and is found in AAHA's microchip registry.

Simply choose which microchip registry you would like to use, make an account and enter your and your pet's information.
