Get your kiddos out on the farm this summer! We are so excited to open registration for McLaughlin Grows' Farm Mini Camp 2025 program! Join us for a 3-day adventure of fun learning activities around the farm. Together we will explore and expand our understanding of plants, agriculture, and nutrition through hands-on activities, crafts, games, and science experiments. We’ll tend the learning garden and harvest a fresh farm snack together every day.

🌱Sprouts Mini Camp🌱: Ages 4 – 7 with adult caregiver I 9:30 – 11:30 am I $40
Sprout campers must be fully potty-trained and turn 4 before their first day of camp.

🌿Seedlings Mini Camp🌿: Ages 6 – 10 I 1 – 4pm I $70
Seedling campers must be comfortable using an adult-sized bathroom on their own and be ready to attend camp without a caregiver.

We are offering three sessions of each camp throughout the summer:
🌼Session 1: June 11-13
🌼Session 2: July 9-11
🌼Session 3: August 6-8

Come volunteer with us this farm season! We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available, including field prep and planting, harvesting, packing farm shares, maintaining our flower fields, arranging cut-flower bouquets, and more. Did you know that McLaughlin Grows Urban Farm is one of three Trinity Health farms?

The story of The Farm at Trinity Health began with the creation of the first farm on the Ann Arbor hospital campus in 2010. A second farm site was built at Trinity Health Oakland in 2019, and McLaughlin Grows joined the team in 2024. We are so grateful for our partners on the east side of the state, and love being able to collaborate and grow alongside them!

Happy National CSA Day! Our CSA, The Farm Share, is one way we work to improve health equity while investing in the local food system. The Farm is a part of a larger Trinity Health Food is Medicine initiative to address nutrition insecurity while improving health and racial equity in our communities.

Here’s some information about our Farm Share for 2025:

The full Farm Share season will run April 9 - Dec 10. Members receive 6-8 produce items per share box, along with nutrition education and a weekly newsletter. 📰 All produce will be grown by McLaughlin Grows or our small, local partner farms. Multiple membership options allow people to select a share that provides just the right amount of produce for you and your family! Produce travels to The Farm < 20 miles on average. By comparison, produce travels to grocery stores > 1500 miles on average. 🥬🚛

We are proud to be celebrating more than a decade of CSAs at McLaughlin Grows in the 2025 season! Last year alone, we distributed nearly 400 share boxes to our neighbors and are looking forward to growing that number this season. Statewide, the Farm at Trinity Health distributed more than 16,000 shares in 2024!

Since joining the Trinity Health family in July of 2024, The Farm has been committed to continuing the community-focused legacy of McLaughlin Grows Urban Farm that began 16 years ago. We are proud to be a part of the fabric of food and community in Muskegon and grateful for the opportunity to continue growing alongside our neighbors 🌱💜

This week is National CSA Week! Join us every day as we share the ins and outs of our CSA, called the Farm Share.

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, where members pay at the beginning of the season to receive regular shares of the fresh, seasonal produce harvested.

The history of CSAs is one centered around community, so we wanted to begin this week by celebrating the work of an important historical figure in the movement, Fannie Lou Hamer.

Commonly known as a civil rights activist, Hamer also founded the Freedom Farm Cooperative. Its purpose was to help feed her community while also building alternative food systems, autonomy, and collective economic power.

Today, co-ops, CSAs, and other community models are utilized across the country as a way to build resilient local food systems. We are looking forward to our first season of partnering with other small, local farms to bring fresh, healthy food to you and your families.

This winter sunshine has us daydreaming of Spring and the exciting things we have planned for the 2025 season! We’re excited to share that we’ll be offering FREE community workshops once a month from March through October. Workshops will range in topic from garden planning and care, to bouquet making and crafts with flowers, to making tasty salsa with fresh farm produce! Six workshops will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:30 pm. We will also have two youth workshops for kids and a caregiver, which will be on Saturday mornings from 10:00-11:30 am. Seeding at The Farm has begun! We kicked it off with onions, shallots, leeks, and celery. These seeds germinate best at slightly lower temperatures, take a long time to be ready to transplant, and grow well in cool weather. For these reasons, they are the only seeds we start in January. Stay tuned to see what gets started next!
