All this shelter dog wanted is a home for Christmas....and that is exactly what she got!
Santa made his annual visit to PoundBuddies over the weekend and as usual, it was an event filled with laughs and heartwarming stories of rescued pets, "bad dog" stories, and hilarious Holiday pet sweaters. 🤣
In between photos with guests, Santa asked staff to bring shelter dogs out for a visit with him.
As staff brought dog after dog out to see him, we noticed that Mrs. Claus joined her husband and the two started to have a private conversation as they BOTH were now visiting with the shelter dogs.
Well, it started to get busy again with guests so staff returned the shelter dogs to their kennels and Santa continue his work meeting with all of the wonderful pets and families who came to see him.
Later in the day, when visits had ended, Santa and Mrs. Claus asked staff "what dog has been looked over the most?"
We sighed and without hesitation, responded "Paris."
Santa and Mrs. Claus didn't ask why, they just asked to see her. We told Santa that she was the dog that climbed up in his lap and gave him a kiss! (Of all the shelter dogs we brought out, Paris was the only dog that did that to Santa!)
We all laughed and Santa and Mrs. Claus asked if we would bring her out again. 🥰
As Paris entered the room, she was her normal silly self. She found new toy in our lobby and then ran over to the couch to show Santa. (Photo in comments)
Paris and Santa and Mrs. Claus clicked immediately. They visited and played for awhile and then Santa asked....."can we adopt her?"
Staff, stunned and holding back tears of pure joy, responded with an immediate "YES!"
So right now, you may be asking "why was Paris overlooked? Why has she not been adopted before?" And our answer....good question!
Paris is a pitty mix
She is 60 pounds
She is an adult dog
Unfortunately, those physical features that people SEE, do determine a dogs "adaptability." (That's not our view, its just a sad fact)
BUT, lets look at Paris, as the amazing girl she is!
Paris is extremely outgoing and LOVES people! She is happy to meet anyone and everyone!
She is dog friendly.
Paris likes to take walks but is just as happy cuddling on a couch.
Paris loves car rides that take her to new places and adventures.
She is potty trained.
Paris is incredibly intelligent and responds well to training.
Paris, like many dogs, has been overlooked for physical attributes. She is literally one of the BEST dogs that was in the shelter. 💗
I looked over at Santa as this conversation went on and I noticed his glassy eyes. He and Mrs. Claus were already in love and Paris was leaving with them, there was no question. 😃 The adoption paperwork as signed and in less than 10 minutes, Paris finally had a family....and it was SANTA!
Before I wrap this up. I want to give you a little history.
Santa and Mrs. Claus are no strangers to rescuing. They have opened their home to dozens of dogs over the years, and not easy dogs like Paris.
They have cared for mother's and their puppies, senior dogs, hospice dogs, basically, the dogs who have needed their love the most.
Earlier this year, they lost "Bella," a senior dog they took into their home (from Pound Buddies). Bella unfortunately died of a very aggressive form of cancer. Their hearts are still feeling the loss, but putting their own feelings aside, they still felt the calling to help another pet in need.
We cannot thank Santa snd Mrs. Claus enough, you are truely very special!
In the comments, you'll see the people behind Santa and Mrs. Claus (Tim & Judy).
They may go by Tim and Judy, but to us, you ARE the real Santa Claus!
