Reducing stress and providing enrichment for our dogs is crucial for their well-being while in the shelter.
This is the #1 reason we do not open the housing areas for people to walk through all day. Yes, that has been done for years but it is truely very stressful and unpleasant for most dogs.
Everyday, the dogs are given quiet time to rest and enjoy a variety of soothing music. Sometimes it's classical, regardless, or like today, some amazing Chris Stapleton country music. And as you can see....the dogs love it!
(Who wouldn't enjoy an afternoon nap! Lol)
Hope you enjoy seeing the dogs so relaxed as much as we do.❤️❤️❤️
Gnocchi is available for adoption at Poundbuddies.org
Catch of the day! 🤣🤣🤣
This poor girl was reported as being dumped out-of a car (witness stated) she then got loose from the good Samaritin who saved her from the roadway.
She was spotted running loose on Laketon near the shelter so we knew we had to work fast to keep her safe!
After pulling out all the tricks in our bag...lol...we finally secured her thanks to Shealagh Bazzett's quick lasso maneuver! 😂😂😂
Man, I wish that would have been caught on video! Great job Shealagh!

Meet Ninja. He is between 1-2yrs old. He has a big personality and short little legs. He is the perfect size at 30lbs. He’s good with other dogs and is waiting for a big yard to play fetch in. If you are interested in meeting Ninja go to poundbuddies.org and fill out a MyPet profile to make an appointment.
Wanted to share this adoption from today. The kids were so excited, it was adorable!
Atom, Fritter and Mickey would love for you to come meet them. Go to Poundbuddies.org and fill out a MyPet profile and come meet these handsome boys.
Meet Patches!
Patches was originally removed from her home following a welfare check.
She was severely emaciated, had been bred multiple times, was being fed beans....(?) And was covered in feces, urine, and sores from being kennelled.
It's been a long road to recovery but she is healthy, happy and ready for her forever home where she will be loved and spoiled.
Patches is dog friendly with socialized dogs, she is potty trained, LOVES to play in the yard but can also settle into a comfy couch and relax with the best of them 🥰.
Thank you Nick Hacket for making this video. There are also pics in the comments from yesterday when Nick & Shelbi treated Patches to a day out of the shelter.
A final shout out to Nick and the entire staff at Pound Buddies for taking such amazing care of the dogs who come in needing so much help. They love these dogs as if they were their own....thank you staff!
Now everyone....let's help find Patches her forever home! 💜💜💜

Mama dog is doing well! Meet "Patty" 🥰
No.
No. No.No. No.No.....
NO!
Need we say more?
Dog is now safe at Pound Buddies.
ANOTHER pregnant dog....ANOTHER liter born at the shelter. 😪💔
Emaciated and injured dog found in a pile of leaves. Now safe!
Our first call this morning came in from a good Samaritan, Deron, who found a dog in need of help, while he was out walking his own dog this morning.
This sweet little guy is severely underweight and has multiple wounds (old and fresh) on his body.
Thankful for Deron, who took the time to call and stay with the dog until we arrived and thankful we have such an amazing community of concerned pet lovers.
When we see the worst of SOME people, we often see the BEST in others.
This dog will never be abused again. Not on our watch. 💜💜💜
THANK YOU DERON!
Injured puppy found at 4am in Muskegon Heights now safe!
A huge thank you to Tom, for taking care of this injured puppy overnight and calling Animal Care and Control for help.
Tom stated that he was helping a neighbor early this morning and this little puppy showed up.
Tom noticed right away that she had an injury on top of her head so he took her in and kept her safe until he called for help this morning.
Thank you Tom! We are so appreciative of all the wonderful animal lovers throughout our community!
The little puppy is safe at Pound Buddies and now that her wounds are clean, it appears to be some minor puncture wounds which should heal quickly. 🥰
Our first Animal Control call of the day. The phones starting ringing as soon. As we open and it's non stop all day.
We are so thankful for the gentleman who noticed this dog tucked behind a corner at this church. Instead of just driving by, he knew something was wrong and this dog needed help.
The gentleman called Animal control and even waited until we arrived to make sure the dog was OK. 🥰 thank you so much for your compassion and for taking the time to help this little guy. (We have some wonderful people in our community!)
This little guy is now at Pound Buddies, warm, fed, and will be taken care of.
Does anyone recognize this dog? Please contact Pound Buddies. Thank you!
Another full-day of responding to loose dog calls.
This poor guy was terrified, running through traffic and dragging a heavy chain padlocked to his collar.
He had been running for several blocks before we were able to locate him and "block him" the best we could from traffic.
Alicia worked her magic and worked quietly and calmly to earn the dogs trust and safely secure him. 🥰
Great job Alicia! 👏 👏👏
"Smooth like butta!"
Imagine having to entertain 100+ children every single day...just the thought of it may wear you out! Lol.
Well, what about 100+ dogs?
It may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about taking care of shelter animals, but providing opportunities for the dogs to "have fun" are critical to their overall well-being and ability to reduce stress while in the shelter.
Just like kids, they will get bored and agitated if they don't have an outlet to play and have some fun!🙂
If you have followed our site, you have probably come across our fantastic videos and some of the hilarious pics we get of the dogs during our play groups.
It is hands down our favorite thing to do with the dogs and we love to see them run and play with pure elation!
Today I shot a short video of Alicia Rios, who heads up our play groups and dog testing (she's amazing!) along with Shae and Ash as they work with the dogs to set-up appropriately matched groups.
Check out this short clip as they march some of our new dogs. 😀
It takes a village!
Animal shelter operations include a multitude of services needed for the care and outcome of the animals, from staff and volunteers to veterinary care and rescue partners.
Hearts of Hope is our saving grace rescue partner and they have saved hundreds of dogs from our shelter alone!
Hearts of Hope is a foster based organization out of Grand Rapids and when they have an open spot for a dog....it is a coveted position! It means a dog is moved out of the shelter and right into a foster home until they are adopted.
Not only have they opened up their fosters homes for Pound Buddies, a group of volunteers comes out every single Sunday to help walk dogs, give extra love and attention, and help us in any way needed.
They are an amazing group and we are go grateful for their support!
Again, we are trying to give people an idea of all different aspects of shelter operations. It is an enormous amount of work and it feels like 100 balls are up in the air at all times! Lol....
Collaboration and the efforts of many people are what keeps this place moving.
Thank you Hearts of Hope! and to everyone who contributes to this amazing cause.
We have more to come!😀
As soon as the morning cleaning is done, we move right into adoption appointments and today is a super fun day watching all these families pick their pup!
Thank you adopters and fosters!
