Squirrel! Oh please, oh please, oh please be my forever home! My master had a run of bad luck and couldn't keep me. Squirrel! This is my second time back at the shelter. I like these people, but it's not where I'd like to stay.

I have lived with tiny mailmen, I mean kids, but super young kids make me anxious. Cats too! I looove other dogs as well. Except Alpha. That guy is a jerk.
I'm house-trained and crate trained! I like to go on adventures (maybe not in houses floating with balloons) and would do best in a medium activity or high activity home.
I take a minute to warm up to men but give me some time, SQUIRREL! and space and I'll be your best buddy!

📣 We continue to have appointments open on upcoming wellness days, AND open spots for dental cleanings this month. Having a full schedule is vital to our organization remaining open to serve you. We are open to the public and always accept new clients.

If we have helped you in the past, leave us a review, let others know we are here to help! A few poor reviews from our walk-in vaccine and high-volume spay and neuter events appear to be skewing our overall recommendation score.

We do so much more than these high-volume events, including offering free or reduced services. And we know there are often long wait times that we can't predict. And, because our clinic is still fairly new, we continually work to learn from and improve those events each time.

"Hello! Hiya!
We're sisters Callie and Tinnley. Our person passed away last December. We didn't have a place to go so our grandpa would come over for hours in the empty house and bring us treats and take care of us as best he could. It was like a full time job! We loved it when he hung out with us all day.

He tried to find us a new home, but no one he knew was interested in two "stocky" girls. So, he did his research, and met with the manager of Big Lake to learn about how they could help find us a home. He still visits, with a bag a food and a big box of treats.

We are a Pawmazing Pair! Callie loves to catch frisbees, Tinnley lives to fetch balls. We even bring them mostly back! We're smart and know a lot of tricks. We like kennels to sleep in at night, walk great on leashes and LOVE the beach. The nice adoption team members took us to the Lake on Sunday. It. Was. Awesome.

We promise, we're not too much. We just want a house with space for our kennels (we love each other, but what siblings couldn't do with their own room?) some food, treats and someone who wants to throw some toys in the yard.

We both have the best smiles! Come meet us and we'll brighten your day too! Maybe take us for an outing to the beach if you can't adopt us?

‼️ 🚨 PSA 🚨 ‼️

Tonight, we had another dog let loose in our front yard. This is the second time in just a week. We understand that people want to get pets to a safe place, but letting them go in front of a closed shelter is NOT the way to do it.

After last week's incident, we put up a bright pink sign on our door whenever we're closed, explaining what to do if you arrive with a pet after hours. Unfortunately, the individuals who let this puppy go stopped to read the sign but didn’t even ring our doorbell. Our evening shift was still cleaning and might have been able to assist if they had.

Our shelter is FULL ‼️ Every kennel is occupied, and many are housing multiple animals. If you find a stray dog (we don’t know that this was a stray), it needs to go to our local animal control, Pound Buddies.

If you can’t take it there, please don’t get involved in a way that could endanger the dog further. Letting it loose near our shelter is not helpful—it could easily disappear into the woods or, worse, be hit by a car.

This puppy was lucky, our evening shift spotted it on their way out and managed to catch it. However, with every kennel full and dogs in every office space, our shelter manager had to come in tonight to take the puppy home.

WE ARE EXAUSTED, UNDERFUNDED AND OVERCAPACITY.

We and all shelters are at a critical point, we need your help—PLEASE.
1. Don’t get a pet you can’t properly care for.
2. If you find a stray dog and can’t take it to Pound Buddies, call them or let someone else help.
3. Get your pet spayed or neutered. Shelters are FULL. Animals are being euthanized daily in shelters across the country due to lack of space. Be part of the solution!!

Two weeks ago, we were contacted by Humane Animal Treatment Society to see if we could assist them and Montcalm County Animal Rescue/Help with a massive hoarding situation of 78 Pomeranians in a home where the sole caregiver was willing to surrender them all.

Even though we are bursting at the seams with over 100 animals in our care right now, we had three adoptions that opened up three kennels, and on Wednesday of last week, we were able to take seven fluffy, adult Pomeranians into our shelter.
We are looking for experienced fosters, as these dogs have never been out of the home they were kept in and have no proper training or idea on how to be companion dogs.

With the additional help of Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, Harbor Humane, ' Home Pet Rescue, and Humane Society of West Michigan, H.A.T.S. was able to arrange most of the dogs to move off the property and into caring facilities willing to get them ready for the next, best chapter in their lives. By working together, we CAN help more animals in need.
