Classical Conditioning, do you remember learning in college about the psychologist who conditioned a dog with ringing a bell? He would ring the bell and feed the dog, over and over again. Eventually over time, the bell would be rung and the dog would automatically salivate, even if food wasn’t present. The dog was conditioned that when X happens, Z results. Humans try so often to over complicate training because they think too much into every detail. Do you love your dog? Absolutely! But, in order to be well trained sometimes getting down to the basics is what is best.Let’s use reactivity for another example. Skip the Shepard is leash reactive and acts like he would maul another dog when they pass. Rather than seeing a dog and reacting, we teach Skip (from a distance), when you see a dog you get to eat. When you see a dog, you get to play. Skip doesn’t need to be comforted because the dog walking by hurt his feelings. Skip needs to be retaught how to interrupt the world.I only charge $200 for an entire 365 days of the online training course. To sign up or get more info follow the instructions below.1. If your dog doesn’t check in with you without being asked to, they’re not ready to be off leash. Allowing your dogs to be off leash prematurely could pose a huge safety risk. Use a long enough line that your dog feels free and use recall when they get to the end of that line and redirect their attention to you. Reward initially when they turn without being asked, then when they look and make their way back towards you, and then when they make their way into your bubble. Training starts in the home and work its way out to public. Fin has very low confidence and his flight response is almost always ready to go. When I picked Fin from the litter of puppies, they were all very timid and easily startled. However, Fin had high energy so I knew I had my work cut out so that fear and energy wouldn’t turn into reactivity. Right at about a year Fin tried to bite me, my roommate, and the other dogs multiple times. Looking back I realized okay it’s time to train HARD and provide a more stimulating environment. Once we did so, these behaviors went away. Fin is only a year and half old so training in all areas will help grow that confidence and improve his ability to relax. This session was impromptu. I saw the ability to use the loud noises, new environment, and strangers to train with. Fin did great and I’m very proud of him. This video might not look like much, but this is very important. Does your dog jump when you enter the door? I want you to pay attention to how my body language, tone of voice, and when I pet them warrants certain behavior. To get a dog to stop jumping, ignoring the behavior is one of the best ways to change the habit overtime. The place command helps insanely until the dog can say hello in a calmed state of mind. You can condition the dog to go to place when someone knocks. There’s countless opportunities to prevent jumping. Whatever technique you use, the key is consistency & time.
