Meet Kronk, the adorable 2 year old male Chihuahua mix seeking his special forever family! Kronk here is a 14.2 pound lovable little guy who bonds closely with his person. He is very affectionate with the ones he loves, however unfamiliar people he is unsure of. Kronk is known as a dude with a tude, however we all love him! He is a little touchy when it comes to certain things but is fabulous at making sure to let you know when he isn’t a fan of a gesture or movement. Kronk is very loving and will come to you when he wants attention, however he also is very independent at times. He is looking to adopt someone who will understand his space and whom has lots of dog experience. This cutie is pretty chill and doesn’t really play like most young dogs, so if your lifestyle isn’t super busy, that’s okay! Kronk gets along with other dogs, however he has not yet been formally introduced to cats. He CANNOT go home with children because of his grumpiness that sometimes shows. Meet Astro, the sensitive but sweet 1 year old male Cur mix seeking his forever home! Astro here is a shy pup, however who doesn't love a bashful guy once in a while? This 53 pound stud is very loving and bonds closely to his humans once he is comfortable in their presence. It doesn't take long for this cutie to fall in love, so give him a good butt scratch and maybe some treats, then immediate heart eyes from Astro! He is the perfect gentleman you've been looking for in your life, and he can't wait to show you why. Astro is a young pup that is looking for a more active family that will also be up for a good ole snuggle session after play time. He is friendly with other dogs, however he hasn't shown his wild side yet as he is newer to our shelter. Astro has not yet been formally introduced to cats or children. We're still learning more about this pooch every day, but so far he is wonderful and will make someone a spectacular companion!

Pierre and Polly are both 1 year old Domestic Shorthair cats that thrive on human affection. Pierre is a warmhearted male cat that loves everyone he meets and is a huge purr machine! He gets along well with other cats. Polly is a female cat who craves attention from her favorite humans and enjoys playing with toys. She is a little scared in her new environment right now, so we are unsure on how she does with other cats. Meet Kong, the spirited 2 year old male French Bulldog seeking his forever home! This 25 pound pup is full of lively energy and silly antics. He is affectionate to his people and enjoys getting love from everyone he meets. Kong is a pooch that will always keep you on your toes, so if you're ready for some mischief in your life, then he's your guy! He is currently working on some of his manners and would do best in a home with someone who is patient and can get him the training he needs. Kong is a lovely little guy who will need lots of enrichment and playtime to keep him happy and at his best! He is crate-trained, as well as potty-trained. If you are familiar with French Bulldogs, that's a plus, as Kong sure matches the description of this breed! Kong gets along well with other dogs, however, he has not yet been formally introduced to cats. He cannot go home with children at this time due to some of his naughty behaviors. Are you yearning for a well-trained, mature pup in your life? My name is Bessie and I am a 54 pound, 5 year old female Terrier mix that has been looking for my forever home for three years now! Everyone here is in complete shock that I haven’t been scooped up yet. Is it because I can’t live with other animals or is it because of my appearance? I swear I’m a good girl that will love you for the rest of my life! I may look tough, but I'm really just a big softie who loves belly rubs and watching romcoms. The kind people here say I am a huge foodie and know all of the best restaurants in town. Although I am a diva who doesn't like to share the spotlight, I'm still a respectful and ladylike pup who knows how to ignore the presence of other dogs while on outings. My favorite activities include getting snuggles, giving kisses, doing tricks for snacks, playing with toys, and going on adventures with my people. I recently went on a vacation away from the shelter to this place called FDF Canine Services where I learned to be a great canine citizen. Now everyone says I’m one well trained pup and should find my forever home here pretty soon. I’m hoping that is true, as I can’t wait to find a home where I can lounge on the couch with my favorite humans, while also occasionally taking a joy ride to Starbucks for one of those tasty pup cups. Lindsey and Shawn came in to the shelter to see Blitzen. They had lost their dog a little while ago and were looking to fill the void. They fell in love with him and report that he is a great dog so sweet and loving and settling in just fine. They are a sweet couple and we know they will have a happy life!

Kevin and Gretchen came into the shelter to see Maple. They saw her picture on our website and had to come into meet her. While spending time in the cat room Kevin fell in love with Grasshopper so they decide to adopt both. They report the cats are great and doing fine and that Grasshopper really lives up to his name. We wish them a happy life.

Meet Wayne, the dapper 10 year old male Terrier mix seeking his forever home where he can live out his retirement years! Wayne here is not only an adorable gentleman, but he also has an amazing personality to match. He may be a senior, however he is still a spunky dude that loves to play! Wayne is very loving and does well with everyone he meets, so if you're looking for a cuddle bug, he's your pooch. Are you a big walker? Wayne here loves to go for walks, especially when the weather is nice outside! He also is a big toy enthusiast and would love a home full of toys for him to throw around. Wayne is smart, friendly, and social... what more could you want in a dog? He does great with other dogs and was even a playgroup superstar at Animal Services! Wayne has yet to meet cats and children, however his gentle demeanor is sure to shine through. This sweet boy currently has some skin issues that need to be cleared up, however he is getting the best care possible to ensure that his fur grows back beautifully. Ashley and her family adopted Dolly from us a few years ago and decided they wanted another pup. They came to us again and we were able to find them a great fit with Donner! They fostered him over Christmas and then Kevin officially became a beloved family member. Him and Dolly get along great even when he pesters her like a little brother and he loves his new human siblings! We are so happy for Kevin and that we could find Ashley and her family another dog!

Jacqueline and her daughter came in to the shelter to meet Trike. They had recently lost one of their dogs and wanted a friend for their dog Miller. Trike and Miller got along great and the adoption was done. Jackie reports he is doing great and loved by all. He has a little puppy nipping that they are working on but potty training is going great!
They are keeping the name and we know Trike will be happy with his new brother and family

Looking for a new furry member of the family? Look no further than Atticus! This friendly, affectionate German Shepherd mix is a great companion! He currently weighs 67 pounds and is thought to be about 3 years old. He walks pretty well on a leash besides the occasional pulling. Atticus loves meeting new people, and is a very loving boy! He's a smart, curious pup who loves a good snuggle. He enjoys spending his days exploring and playing with his favorite humans. He has not yet been tested with dogs, cats, or kids. Our favorite adoption of the new year!! Sinatra came to us in 2020 after being found as a stray. After being at HSLWR for 3 weeks he started to display some concerning behavioral issues so we reached out to FDF to come evaluate him. They felt he would benefit from their board and train program so we started fundraising and he went to school for a month! Once he came back he was still struggling in a shelter environment, and they so graciously opened up their homes to him as a foster. He has been our longest resident since 2020. Our goal is never to have an animal in the shelter for years but this special guy had a huge support system behind him. We could not have asked for a more perfect situation for him with one of their amazing employees Alie. He gets to live out his retirement full of love and still see his friends at FDF regularly. We wish them many happy years together!

On 7/29/2020 a stray dog made his way to Sarasota County Animal Services.

On 8/3/2020 he was transferred to Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch.

In September into October of 2021, he came to FDF for a training camp.

In April of 2022 he came back to FDF as a foster to try and increase his chances of adoption.

Since April 2022 he’s spent his days with us here at the farm as what we thought would be a “forever foster”……

SINATRA WAS ADOPTED!!!!!!! And the best part…. He was adopted by our wonderful staff member Alie!!!!! (Not to be confused with me, Allie 🙋🏼‍♀️🤪)

Sinatra has spent the last few days settling into his new home with Alie and we could not be more excited for both of them. 💙💙💙
