K9 Gino
EOW: 9-24-24

The Frederick Police Department and the Milyard family are mourning the loss of one of their own, 10 Year old Shepherd/Malinois, K9 Gino.

Gino served with the Frederick City Police department for 9 Years. During that time, Gino accounted for numerous narcotics apprehensions.

As impressive as his narcotic apprehensions may be, Gino’s legacy will forever be his willingness to place himself in harms way to protect his handler, fellow officers and the citizens of Frederick City. Gino is credited with multiple apprehensions of violent individuals, ultimately making the community a safer place.

A true pioneer of his craft, Gino was also responsible for his departments first CMD (controlled muzzle deployment).

For the members of Optimum Working Dog Solutions this loss hits close to home. Dog teams like Gino and OFC Milyard are the last of their kind. Their relentless pursuit of violent criminals is inspiring. Gino leaves behind a giant void that will never be replaced.

Rest easy buddy.

Congratulations PFC Echols!

For the first time in over two decades, The Taneytown Police Department is proud to announce that we have established a K-9 patrol unit.

Everyone, meet K-9 Trigger. 🐾

At the completion of his training, Trigger will specialize in tracking, narcotics detection, and article searches. K-9 Trigger is a Black Labrador Retriever that came all the way from Germany to be with us. He will be a valuable partner to his handler, Pfc. Echols.
Echols describes Trigger as a playful, energetic, and friendly companion who loves when it’s time to “go to work!” Off duty, Trigger loves his Kong, treats, and playing in the pool.

Pfc. Echols is a six-year veteran officer who has been with our department since 2022. Echols also served as a Marine where he was stationed on Camp Pendelton and in Quantico Virginia. He was also stationed at U.S. Embassies in Panama City Panama, Karachi Pakistan, Dakar Senegal, and other forward theaters abroad. Pfc. Echols has always wanted to be a K-9 handler and is thankful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Taneytown in this capacity. This venture is a huge accomplishment that will benefit not only our community but the neighboring cities and counties that surround us.

This duo is headed to training soon and will be actively patrolling our community at the end of this summer.
