Found in Aynor, SC: A neighbor reported seeing a vehicle pull up and this dog being dumped alongside another. Unfortunately, the second dog is no longer in the area. We urgently need a foster! ❗️PLEASE refrain from commenting on how terrible this situation is—we all share the same heartbreak. There is no information about the vehicle involved. PLEASE share! ❗️This sweet girl needs a foster home as soon as possible, she is dog friendly & people friendly! Unsure about cats! She is still outside! 💔

🐶 Meet Dwayne: From Survival to Healing ❤️‍🩹

Last week, we were able to catch Dwayne on a dirt road in the woods, just one day after his friend Regina was rescued in the same spot. On Saturday, we quickly noticed Dwayne’s swollen abdomen. Given that Regina is heartworm positive, we feared Dwayne might also have heartworm disease and “heartworm belly.” 🫀 🪱

🏥 This morning, Dwayne visited Loris Animal Hospital for a thorough check-up. Here’s what we’ve learned so far:
• Dwayne is approximately three years old and is heartworm positive, with microfilaria (baby heartworms) in his bloodstream.
• X-rays revealed an enlarged heart, as well as an old pelvic fracture that has since healed. The doctor also discovered a grade 4 heart murmur.
• Fortunately, his abdomen does not have fluid buildup. However, his colon is backed up, likely from eating grass, leaves, and other things he found to survive in the woods.
• He is anemic, dehydrated, and struggling with slow-moving digestion.

💊 Dwayne is now on medications for his belly, starting Doxycycline to address the bacteria caused by heartworms, and receiving sub q fluids for hydration. He’ll also be eating meals with pumpkin to help with digestion. While his recovery will take time, we’re optimistic! He’ll have a follow-up in one month to reassess his heart and plan for heartworm treatment.

💚 There’s good news, too! His f***l test was negative for parasites, and despite everything, Dwayne is an absolute sweetheart. He loves people, is dog-friendly, kid-friendly, and quiet in his crate. We haven’t cat-tested him yet, but he’s already enjoying the warmth of a home, regular meals, fresh water, and plenty of snuggles.

🧾 Dwayne’s initial vet bill came to $369, which Rescue Tails paid in full while at the vet (see pic). He is one of four dogs 🐶 🐶 🐶 🐶 we’ve taken in over the past 10 days, all of whom will need spay/neuter procedures, and both Dwayne and Regina will begin heartworm treatment when ready.

🩵 Bo’s journey took an unexpected turn 11 days ago when he was hit by a car, but this resilient pup is treating it as a blessing in disguise. Now safe in foster care, Bo has traded the frigid cold for the warmth of a loving home, complete with a cozy dog bed for his beauty sleep and a human foster sister who wraps him in blankets after potty breaks. Soon, Bo will be ready to find his forever family through Rescue Tails!🩵

🐶🐶🐶 This week, Rescue Tails welcomed three deserving pups who were rescued from the cold, harsh woods. First, there’s Leia, found on Wednesday wearing a dirty sweater, lying on a blanket next to a leash, and shivering in the cold. Leia has since received her vaccines, a microchip, and, thankfully, tested heartworm negative. Then there’s Regina and Dwayne, who were discovered on a dirt road in the woods. Caring community members worked tirelessly to provide dog houses, straw, tarps, and food to keep them safe and warm until they could be rescued. We were able to catch Regina on Thursday and Dwayne today. Regina is now vaccinated, microchipped, and will begin treatment for heartworms soon, while Dwayne will receive his medical care in the coming days. All three will also need to be spayed or neutered. These sweet dogs have gone from being abandoned and ice-cold to warm, fed, and finally loved. Please consider donating to help us cover their care and give them the fresh start they so deeply deserve.

🐾 Bo’s Recovery Update 🐾

We are thrilled to share that Bo, the resilient hound dog hit by a car on Thursday morning, is recovering beautifully! His strength and gentle nature continue to amaze us.

✨ Here’s what Bo’s been up to:
• He’s eating two meals a day and drinking water on his own—no coaxing needed!
• Bo has met three large dogs and a few cats, and he’s been a total gentleman with everyone.
• He’s enjoying the warmth of his foster home and has even started asking for pets!
• Zero potty accidents—he even went to the back door tonight to let his foster family know he needed to go out.
• Bo prefers a simple throw rug for naps instead of a bed, and today, he melted our hearts cuddling with his senior foster sister, Daisy. (Check out that smile in the photo—it says it all!)

Bo’s journey reminds us why we do what we do. Thank you for supporting animals like him as they heal and find their second chance at happiness. 💕 Stay tuned for more updates on this incredible boy!

💙 Bo’s Progress Update 💙

To everyone rooting for our sweet boy Bo, Rescue Tails’ first rescue of 2025: we have some encouraging news to share!

After being hit by a car on Thursday morning, Bo was given a guarded prognosis. It’s been a tough couple of days, and he’s been extremely sore. We’ve been carefully giving him his meds with a syringe and chicken broth, but he hadn’t shown any interest in food or water—until tonight.

Around 10:30 pm, Bo finally ate some wet food offered to him by hand! He also drank a good amount of water, and we can’t even express how much this lifted our spirits. 💙

Even more incredible, Bo stood up on his own and walked out of his kennel! We assisted him outside to the grass, thinking he might need to potty, but instead, he took a step closer to me and licked my hand. 🥹

It’s moments like these that remind us what a fighter Bo is. While he still has a long road to recovery, this progress feels like a step in the right direction. Please keep the good thoughts, prayers, and love coming for Bo—we’re so grateful for your support!

We’ll keep you updated on his journey. Let’s cheer him on as he keeps fighting! 💪🐶

⭐️ This is what healing looks like—fluffy and fabulous! ⭐️

Think back to Matilda—now lovingly renamed Heidi by her foster mom. In October, her story was nothing short of heartbreaking. She was living under a house until Rescue Tails trapped her. She was battling heartworm, sarcoptic mange, and a tick-borne disease. On top of her health struggles, she was frightened, isolated, and overlooked.

Fast forward to January, Heidi is a different dog. She’s been treated for heartworm and her other illnesses, spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Since arriving in her foster home at Thanksgiving, she’s been growing a beautiful coat of fur and showing signs of joy. While she’s still very timid, she’s beginning to blossom, especially with the help of the other dogs in her foster home.

We know that in time, Heidi will learn to trust humans again. Sadly, her journey highlights the reality for so many dogs still living on the streets—dogs without a warm bed, a guaranteed meal, or the care they desperately need.
