This is the worst case of fly strike that I’ve ever seen. Five baby opossums fell off mom yesterday when she was chased by a dog, the finder found them in her yard and reached out to us. These poor babies had mouths full of fly strike and their bodies covered in thousands of eggs. If eggs aren’t removed within 9 hours, the fly strike will start hatching into maggots that eat them alive. Flies lay eggs on animals that are weak and dying. Overall the babies are healthy but not able to survive on their own. It took over an hour to get them all cleaned up, but they are all very active now that they are warmed up and have received fluids. Raising opossums from this size to release costs hundreds of dollars, please consider donating toward their care.

We just want to give a shout out to the City of Myrtle Beach Police Department, I don’t think their officers get enough credit for everything they do to help animals needing to be rescued within the city limits of Myrtle Beach. A lifeguard rescued this drowning great horned owl from the ocean a little while ago, Officer Loizzi from beach patrol picked him up and met up with me.
He is being transported down to The Center For Birds Of Prey today to receive medical treatment as well as an injured loon that was found on the beach.

Please consider donating to The Avian Conservation Center / The Center for Birds of Prey to help cover the cost of their care 🦉❤️

Holy Easter Bunnies 🐰

Apparently dogs didn’t get the memo about finding plastic easter eggs on Easter, they sought out Easter bunnies 😕

We received 7 baby eastern cottontail rabbits today from two different locations, one has a pretty serious leg wound. After discussing the situation with the finders, it was determined they should not be returned to where they came from. A very sad situation all around but we will make the best of it

Mom Opossum is still hanging in there. She’s moving around more but still not eating on her own. She’s being tube fed several times a day as well as receiving subq fluids. The babies have grown so much in the last couple of days ❤️‍🩹

Yesterday we took in a mom opossum that was found in the road with blood coming out of her nose. She is stable but not wanting to eat or drink on her own. She is being tube fed, receiving subq fluids and we are keeping her pouch clean, there are at least 9 tiny babies in there. We are monitoring her to make sure she can continue caring for the babies without it taking too much of a toll on her
