November is Pet Diabetes Month. Every year we spread awareness about this condition, which approximately affects 1 in 300 dogs and 1 in 230 cats. A major contributing factor of diabetes in pets is obesity. Diabetes has no cure, but pets can live happy and healthy lives with the appropriate diet and medications.

Job Description
Myrtle Beach Animal Hospital is a small animal veterinary clinic in Myrtle Beach, SC is seeking a positive, friendly and dedicated Veterinary Assistant-Technician to join our hospital team. Our hospital is a high quality, full service practice. The position plays an integral role in providing excellent care to our patients as well as providing outstanding customer service to our clients. This is a full time veterinary technician/assistant position and Saturday shifts will be required.
What we are looking for in a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant:

- Caring and compassionate.
- Ability to perform under emergency and high stress situations.
- Ability to stoop, bend, lift, and or stand for extended periods of time.
Veterinary Technician/Veterinary Assistant DUTIES
- Client communication- record data on case history, provide basic education on animal care, nutrition, and medical conditions.
- Maintaining medical records and billing information. Scheduling appointments, greeting customers, preparing invoices, answering phones, making follow up calls and referrals. Experience with Cornerstone is a plus!
- Preparing and labeling medications and prescriptions.
- Blood, f***l, and urine collection
- Lab work- including but not limited to; f***l tests, urinalysis, in house blood-work, cytology preparation and reading.
- Radiography
- Prepare patients for surgery, calculating medication doses, administer intravenous and subcutaneous injections prior to, during and post procedure. Assist, monitor and record data for surgical procedure.
- Restrain and stabilize animals during exam and treatment.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and perform routine procedures.
- Instruct clients how to administer medications and apply care at home.
Veterinary technician/assistant QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-2 year’s veterinary experience, or certificate of completion from a NAVTA approved veterinary program.
- High- school diploma or equivalent.
