π¨π¨ Hermione needs a home before January 3rd!! π¨π¨
This sweet, beautiful, affectionate girl has been in the shelter system for almost FOUR YEARS. π
She loves meeting new people π, plays well with other dogs π, and gives the world's best hugs π«.
So WHY is she not in a forever home π‘??
After having spent way too long in a shelter environment, Hermione started to develop some behaviors that made her less... "attractive" (π) to adopters. We began to notice that when she had her favorite toys π₯, she didn't want to give them up (who could blame her.. she had to hold on to the few things she had here in a shelter surrounded by 100 other dogs). Hermione also loves to cuddle π, but when she first came out of her run, she would have major zoomies π¨ (again.. see how you feel after 12 hours in a concrete run) and many adopters won't give a dog time to settle down and show their true personality (this breaks our hearts every time π... if only they could see the beauty that we see π in every dog).
Thankfully, our volunteers and staff at GSHS refused to give up on Hermione. πͺ She is now spending 30 days at an amazing board and train facility where she is shocking us all with her unbelievably quick progress!! ππ
Check out this video of Hermione showing off everything she's learning!! π She sure is smart!!π‘
One thing is for certain. π― Hermione can NOT come back to the shelter after her board and train experience ends January 3rd. π We know that she will immediately regress and all of her hard work will be lost. π³
Help us find our girl a home π‘ before time runs out!! β°οΈ Potential adopters will have the opportunity to go and spend time with her and her trainer so that they can continue to reinforce all of these great habits π once they bring Hermione home!!

Our final #GivingTuesday duo is Elise and Kylie!
Elise is our Shelter Manager at Grand Strand Humane Society. She has been working at the shelter for almost six years now. Elise has the biggest heart and the kindest, most gentle way about her. Our animals take to her instantly and our staff, volunteers, adopters and fosters all adore her. This field can harden some people to the horrors that they see every day... but not Elise. After six years, she still cries over the broken souls we receive. You can watch her heart shatter when she sees fear flash across the eyes of a new intake. Elise has often sat patiently for hours with an animal to earn their trust. She has more compassion in her pinky finger than most people do in their whole body. Every day, Elise shows up ready and willing to take care of not only the animals but the people of this community. GSHS is so lucky to have her!
Kylie was brought to us after being abandoned by her owners. She is a perfect example of our mission to never give up on an animal. This beautiful girl must have suffered significant trauma in her life that has left her very wary of new people. Once she is comfortable with you though?! Well... you can see for yourself in the video!! Kylie gives the best kisses and love to jump up and give hugs. She brings so much joy to our GSHS family each and every day. Our hope is that one day she will find another family and brighten their lives just like she does for us.
Your support helps Elise and the rest of the GSHS team provide food, shelter and medical care for long-term animals, like Kylie!

HAPPENING NOW!!
This sweet momma dog was found hiding in a chicken coop early this morning with her nine tiny puppies. She must have been trying to find shelter from the frigid cold in hopes of saving her babies. When the owner of the property found them this morning, she knew she had to try to help them. They couldn't stay with her because her two dogs are aggressive with other animals so she set out to find them a safe place to land.
That was at 8 AM this morning. Since then, she has been driving around and calling and begging everyone to take in this poor family. Everywhere she tried said no. And it's not their fault. EVERY. SINGLE. SHELTER. is far past their breaking point right now. We are all drowning. There are simply too many animals in need and not enough resources to care for them all. We are in the same boat at GSHS with more than double the number of dogs we would ideally have. But, it just so happened that 15 minutes before this woman pulled up, we sent a large dog to foster care opening a space to squeeze in a crate for this family. And we just couldn't say no.
Mommy has mastitis and several of the puppies are severely sick with upper respiratory infections due to living outside in this horrible weather. They absolutely would not survive being put back outside. Our amazing medical team JUST finished looking at each precious puppy and momma too. Everyone has been started on medications, fed, snuggled and tucked in for the evening.
Animal welfare is broken. No facility should ever be put in the situation where they feel forced to say no to animals in desperate need. We need fosters and adopters now more than ever. Lately it seems that far too many people view pets as "disposable". The excuses for animal surrenders are getting more ridiculous by the day. "I work too much." "My dog had an accident on my new rug." "My cat scratched my sofa." "My dog growled at a stranger when they approached quickly." "I'm going on vacation and can't afford to board m
Meet Lindsey and Ember!
Lindsey has been working at GSHS for 1.5 years. She works in several different areas here at the shelter! Lindsey helps to recover our animals from spay and neuter surgeries, works at the front desk in our Tanger location, helps process new kitty intakes, cares for our beautiful cats and sometimes helps in our kennel area! Lindsey shares her home with her rescue pups Bella, Lily, Arwen and Koda and her beautiful rescue kitty Vizzy Anne, who she fostered and bottle fed when she came into GSHS at just 5 days old. Lindsey recently lost her soul kitty, Mia, who she loved more than anything. β€
Ember was brought in after being found outside with her newborn kittens. They were all severely underweight and suffering from upper respiratory infections. We knew they needed medications right away along with supplemental feedings. Fortunately, our awesome team stepped up to the plate and went above and beyond for this beautiful little family. All of Ember's kittens miraculously survived and grew bigger and stronger every day! Our sweet momma Ember was giving her babies all that she had and was still very weak a couple of weeks into her stay with us. We made the decision to separate her from her babies so that she could heal and regain her strength while we took over caring for her little ones. It was absolutely the right decision! Ember started to flourish immediately!! She has blossomed into the gorgeous cat that you see in this video. She has been spayed and is now ready to find her forever home where she is loved and protected, just like she did for her precious babies.
Help us save families just like Ember's with a donation to our #GivingTuesday campaign today!!

Meet Kerstyn and Missy!
Kerstyn has been working for GSHS for five months. She works at our Tanger location taking exceptional care of all of the beautiful cats and kittens housed there. Kerstyn cleans their cages, helps keep them healthy and gives them lots of snuggles!! She has quickly fallen in love with many of the cats that she cares for and has even taken a few home to foster. We are happy to have her on our team!
Missy was brought to us as an owner surrender. She was incredibly stressed out being here in a shelter environment and began losing weight and pulling out her beautiful fur. π Our team quickly found her a loving foster home where she began to flourish!! When her foster mom had to bring her back to the shelter, we were very worried that she would start doing poorly again. Fortunately, we were wrong! Missy is doing great!! β€ She loves getting out into the playroom with volunteers, sits perfectly still to be brushed and gives the best snuggles! Missy is looking for her forever home - could it be you?!
Your support of our #GivingTuesday campaign allows us to take it animals in need, just like Missy. It provides us with the resources we need to give her and thousands of other animals each year the individualized care they require!

Meet Audrey and Nugget!!
Audrey handles all things "CAT" at Grand Strand Humane Society! She processes all of our kitty adoptions, receives and intakes all new cats, helps to manage all of the medical care for our shelter cats, coordinates with our kitty fosters and so much more!! Audrey is often the person taking home our most critical cat cases when they need around the clock foster care. She is incredibly dedicated to our mission, and we are grateful to have her! Audrey shares her home with her partner, Jordan, and a menagerie of special needs animals (most of whom are GSHS alumni).
Nugget is basically the center of our universe at our Tanger location. He has lived at GSHS for more than five years and while some days he lets Audrey think she's in charge... we all know the truth. It's really Nugget that runs the show.
Nugget came in to Grand Strand Humane Society with a traumatic injury that left him unable to control his bowel movements or bladder. Because of this, he was passed over time and time again by adopters. He lived in our free roaming cat room when we were in our old building, but when we moved to our Tanger location we were terrified that he would try to sneak out the front door. We tried putting him in a pen, but he would always find a way to sneak out. After several weeks, we realized Nugget wouldn't go anywhere near the front or back doors. He knew how good he had it here as the big boss, and he wasn't doing anything to jeopardize that.
Nugget has not had an easy journey. He has had to have several surgical procedures and most recently has been on multiple medications to clear a persistent infection. We've had to start expressing his bladder several times each day and giving him "booty baths" - he is NOT a fan of these things, however he offers Churus as acceptable bribes while our team gives him the care that he needs. Nugget has special needs and requires a little extra care (some days a lot of extra care π€£), but he is 100% worth it.

Meet Marley and Nubbins!
Marley has been working at GSHS for six months now and she has been doing a fabulous job! She works in our walk-in veterinary clinic helping to give public animals vaccines and in our surgery area helping to recover our beautiful shelter pets after their spays and neuters. Marley is patient and kind with both the animals and the clients, always taking the time to explain the services that we offer and how they might benefit each pet. Marley shares her home with her boyfriend, Hunter, and their sweet rescue pup, Rufus.
Nubbins first came to GSHS as a stray from out of our jurisdiction at a time when we were so overcapacity, there was just no physical space to fit another crate. Instead of simply turning her away, our amazing team offered the finders a crate, food, supplies and a date to return for intake. The finders did their part and kept this sweet girl safe for three weeks until we were able to accept her at GSHS. When she came back to us, we realized how scared this sweet girl was. She was nervous being walked on a leash, hid from new people and broke out of her crate quite a few times. Over the past several months, Nubbins has settled in and started showing us her sweet and goofy personality. She loves other dogs and does great in playgroups!! We know that she will be an amazing addition to a loving family!
Help Marley and the rest of the GSHS team provide care for Nubbins and thousands more each year with a donation to our #GivingTuesday campaign!!

Meet Lisa and Charlotte!!
Lisa has been working for Grand Strand Humane Society for 14 years... you read that right FOURTEEN years. She has done almost every single job here at GSHS and she does each and every one of them exceptionally well. Lisa was our surgery technician for more than ten years and she was second to none. We all joked that Lisa could just *sense* if something was wrong with an animal on the table. She would catch a problem before it even had the chance to become a problem. Lisa is now our Client Relations Manager and once again, she has exceled in this position. Our visitors love talking with her, she is wonderful with incoming adopters, and she somehow manages to keep our front area running smoothly even though most days it looks like Grand Central Station. Lisa keeps us all smiling, even on the most difficult days, with her positive energy and hilarious personality. GSHS truly would not be the place that it is without Lisa. We are so grateful for her years of dedication, service, and sacrifice. Lisa shares her home with her husband, Cliff, her rescue kitty Puddles and GSHS alumni pups Milo and Squirt.
Charlotte was sadly surrendered to GSHS after her owner passed away and no family was able to take her in. She was previously declawed, but it currently does not seem to be causing her any significant pain. Charlotte loves to give hugs and kisses and is happiest when snuggled on a lap! We are heartbroken to see this senior girl stuck in a cage, but we know that we will find her another home where she is loved and appreciated.
Your support on #GivingTuesday helps give animals like Charlotte the second chance that they most definitely deserve.

Meet Nick and Noah!!
Nick has been working for GSHS for over three years now! He started working in our kennel area π and wanted to be able to do more for our dogs. He spent six months studying π dog behavior and training methodology and returned to GSHS as our Enrichment Coordinator! π§βπ« Nick spends most of his time working with our dogs that have exhibited behavioral issues. He teaches them basic obedience skills, helps them work on their manners and teaches them to walk calmly on leash. π£ Nick is invaluable in helping each and every dog find their perfect forever home π‘! He shares his home with his beautiful rescue dogs - Bailey, Luna and Amber.
Noah is a special to all of us here at GSHS. π₯° He first came to us as an emaciated 6 month old pup who was quite literally starving to death. π Our medical team was able to bring him back to life and we placed him in a foster home for him to continue getting stronger πͺ. Somewhere along the way, Noah developed a bad habit of mouthing, as many puppies do. Nick has been working diligently with Noah to correct this habit, and over the hundreds of hours βοΈ they've spent together, these two have become best friends! π« Noah is still looking for his forever home... could it be with you??
When you make a donation to our #GivingTuesday campaign, you help Nick and the rest of our team continue taking exceptional care of beautiful animals just like Noah.

Meet Jordan and Dante!
Jordan has been working for GSHS for almost three years now. They manage all of our surgeries π©Ί, vaccinate public animals during our walk in veterinary clinic π, assist with medical care for our shelter animals π and they help clean our kitties, too! Jordan has a soft spot for the most difficult cases that we receive here at GSHS. β€οΈβπ©Ή They often take home animals that need around the clock medical care! π‘ Just in the past few months they have fostered two urinary incontinent kitties, a paralyzed kitten, a dog in heart failure and several neonatal kittens. Jordan shares their home with their partner, Audrey, four dogs π Juniper, Coco, Shirley and Iris, many rescue kitties π and a few rescue rats π, too!
Dante is a sweet, shy boy who came to us over a year ago with his sister Roxy. They were originally adopted into a home together but unfortunately, they weren't getting along and after they were returned to the shelter, we decided to adopt them out separately. Roxy was adopted earlier this year but Dante is still looking for his forever home! This beautiful boy loves the beach and would be the best adventure buddy!! He does take a little while to warm up to new people but once he does you have a friend for life! π
Your donation to our #GivingTuesday campaign helps ensure that animals like Dante have a safe place to land!

Meet Brittany and Rooney!
Brittany has been working for Grand Strand Humane Society for 8 years. She handles all of our dog adoptions, helps manage our Joe White Ave location, facilitates intakes and assists with medical care. Any free time that Brittany has away from GSHS is spent rescuing other animals in need. She volunteers with another local group helping to trap lost and stray dogs so that they can be brought to safety. Brittany is fiercely protective of every animal that walks through our doors. These animals are very lucky to have her in their corner. Brittany shares her home with her four rescue dogs - Cali, Bugsby, Amelia and Raquel. She loves them more than anything else in the world. β€οΈ
Rooney was just a puppy when he was adopted from one of our loving foster homes. Our team began getting suspicious when Rooney's new owners stopped returning calls about his vaccine boosters and neuter appointment. We finally threatened to involve law enforcement at which time the family admitted they had given Rooney away. They only had a phone number for the new owner and when we called we were told that Rooney had been given away yet again. This second person refused to provide any information regarding the person he gave Rooney to. Our team immediately filed a police report and worked through the steps of our case only to be told this would need to be handled in court. We contacted an attorney to begin that process all the while terrified that Rooney might be sick or injured somewhere out there.
Yesterday, a miracle happened. We received a phone call that a dog matching Rooney's description had been found wandering through a neighborhood. The finder brought him to be scanned for a chip and it was confirmed - that was our boy!! We are so grateful to have Rooney back safe and sound here at GSHS! He has been bounced around so much in his short life and we have made him a promise that he will know only safety and security from this moment on.
