Hi everyone! This is Shelly Dog Trainer and owner of Maple & Co Dog training! Many of you know me from my days training pups at Pet smart. Well after I left and took some time to reorganize life I knew I had to get back to what I loved doing and that's training dogs and helping people further the bond with their best furry friend! So I decided to start my own Dog Training business. My goal is to help people build relationships with their pups and to help achieve training goals. At Maple and Co we offer Basic obedience, Therapy Dog training, and Service training in the form of private or group classes. Maple & Co also offers Dog Walking (puppy promenade), peekaboo check ins, and pet sitting. I am so excited to be getting back into what I love and am happy to announce that now through the 31st we have a puppy promotion sale going on for private and group classes! This is so true yall. Retractable leashes are dangerous no matter the size dog or age. Using these can lead to the loss, injury, or death of your pet. Instead I recommend using a 6ft leash when walking your dog.

Dogs are special... They are loyal and always there for us when we need them, they comfort you when you are sad or stressed, some dogs charge into fires to save people and help first responders find broken bodies under debris! Dogs are smart and courageous and we are lucky to have such loving creatures in our lives. And sometimes these amazing Dogs work as Therapy Dogs to bring love and joy to those who need it the most. Therapy Dogs are dogs that have been trained to be calm and visit places such as schools, libraries, nursinf homes, and hospitals to bring joy to people who need it. St Jude's is a world renowned hospital for children that has cancer and other terminal illnesses and they will never turn a child away. Right now St Jude's is looking for Therapy Teams (handler and Dog) to go in and visit these babies that are sick and dying, because even one dose of happiness can change a childs world. So if you have a dog that has already been trained in this category or you have been thinking about it this is the time 💙

Walk to help kids with cancer

Choosing the correct crate is sooo important when it comes to crate training. Ideally the crate should be big enough for the dog to walk in turn around and lay down anything smaller than that can cause stress and even injury to your pet and its completely avoidable. Crates are also good tools for potty training (preface Maple & Co does not advocate for leaving a dog in a kennel for prolonged periods of time). When using the kennel as a potty training tool, you want your kennel to be big enough for your pup to be able to walk in turn around and lay down and no bigger than that. The idea is we feed the pup in the kennel wait 15-30 minutes and then take them out to go potty (I recommend taking them out on the leash). The reasoning behind doing this is that it teaches them through correlation that potty time equals outside and in addition to that it gets them on a schedule. Getting your pup on a schedule for feeding and potty breaks is important for several reasons such as:
1. You are able to monitor your dogs food intake to make sure they are getting the appropriate nutrition.
2. Taking your dog out to go potty on a leash regularly allows you to make sure they are going like they are supposed to
3. Taking your dog out to go potty on a leash will allow you to monitor your pets health.
4. Getting on a schedule will make your life easier because you and the dog both know when its time for them to eat and go potty and it will eliminate accidents.
