Happy Monday!
Did you recently upgrade your screens?
We're in search for a Cat TV for the Cattery!

Cat enrichment is vital to shelter cats. Anyone have a small screen TV you'd like to donate to keep our kittens entertained? We are also looking for remote speakers to play specialized music that is known to calm cats. Please reach out to us at [email protected] for more information!

Bonded Pairs!
Did you know that we have some Bonded Pairs in the Cattery? Just in time for Valentine's Day!

Bonded Pairs Have:

Improved social development: Bonded pairs learn to play together, use the litter box, and interact with humans.

Decreased mishaps: Bonded pairs are always busy and have a playmate around.

Reduced inter-cat conflict: Bonded pairs have each other to lean on.

Cope with life stressors more easily: Bonded pairs may cope with life stressors, such as transitioning to a new home or going to a vet, more easily than alone.

Check out our bonded pairs this weekend and see if our cuties are right for your household!

Everyone loves the new Shy Suite —especially the kitties from the main cattery, who think it’s a mysterious, magical place with lots of nooks to explore and nap in 🙀❤️ Oscar and Butters are trying very hard to make themselves honorary residents 😻😻

Episode 1

This is a Pet Haven True Rescue Story: Trixie, the Lucky Lost Tabby.

As one of our volunteers was leaving the shelter at dusk last week, she saw a Tabby run across the parking lot. Worried that a Pet Haven resident may have somehow gotten out, she went back inside to ask the staff.

"It's not one of ours, but an owner did accidentally lose his kitty in the parking lot last week".

It was getting dark, but the volunteer decided to investigate. The cat had run next door to the convenience store. Sure enough, she spotted a brown/grey Tabby sniffing around under the dumpster.

Clue: The cat was hungry.

There are a ton of tabby cats in this world, so the odds are slim that this is the same kitty that went missing. Still, it’s imperative to know for sure. A phone call to the owner confirmed that yes, the Tabby was brown/grey adding, "Please help retrieve our cat, Trixie. My wife is heartbroken".

Another clue: The cat’s coat matched the coloring the owner described.

The next step in the investigation was to put out some food and a camera overnight. Success! That night the kitty came to eat, and the pictures confirmed that it was the same brown/grey Tabby that the volunteer had seen. Better yet, this cat had “close-set” eyes as the owner described.

We had enough evidence to trap. Much as we’d have preferred to simply pick up the kitty and bring it inside, lost cats outdoors are wary and scared. A humane trap was our best chance that this kitty would be rescued and reunited with her people
Now the tough part, we needed to trap her, and that would be tricky given the frigid evening temperatures, as trapped cats can freeze if left contained outdoors. So, the staff put the trap out before dusk and waited. A few hours later, there was still no cat in the trap. They would have to try again the next day.

That's when the lost tabby stepped in to help. The next morning, Jeannette, the Shelter Manager, got out of her car and she heard a cat crying from the bushes. Soon the Brown/Grey tabby approached her cautiously, but every time Jeannette tried to touch the cat, she ran away.

Who says cats don’t have guardian angels? Of all the places a kitty could get lost, the best chance of a rescue is at Pet Haven, and of all the people a kitty could approach to be rescued, the best cat whisperer around is Jeannette. Within a couple hours Jeannette had her safely inside awaiting the owner’s identification. By days end, it was confirmed. After a week out in the cold, hungry and on a busy street, Trixie was safely reunited with her people.

Case closed.
