We provide much needed support to our local animal shelter and the community by developing, funding and managing programs to assi

st with pet adoption and lifetime care, provide community education, and promote volunteer opportunities. We support these efforts with programs such as:
- medical emergency fund for shelter animals and shelter alumni
- volunteer program support
- community adoption events and promotions

Celebrating a "Foster Fail." Meet Mochi!

Sometimes a "Foster Fail" happens. Even with an experienced Pet Foster like FONCAS President Miryam Chae, whose family has fostered over 70 dogs.

“Mochi was born at the shelter and later came to our house for puppy training," Miryam shares. "Mochi never left!"

What is a "Foster Fail"? It is when a Fosterer falls in love with their fosters and decides to keep them. It is no wonder that the ASPCA actually prefers the term "Foster Fortune"!

Meet Abby. She found hope with FONCAS President Miryam Chae and her family, who have fostered 70 dogs.

“Abby is One of our longest fosters. She lived with us for 7 months," Miryam shares. "She was incredibly scared and it took a while to get her to open up to strangers. We took her everywhere with her 'Adopt Me' vest to get her attention."

Fostering does more than provide a safe place. It teaches dogs how to trust, love, and find their furever family. It’s a small act of kindness with a massive reward.

Meet Lucy, a beautiful soul who just needed a little kindness to blossom. She was one of 70 foster dogs cared for by FONCAS President Miryam Chae and her family.

“Lucy was so scared and skittish,” Miryam shares. “She couldn’t relax in the shelter, so we brought her home to give her the time and space to decompress.”

Shelters can feel overwhelming for sensitive pets like Lucy. Fostering provides animals with a much-needed break from the shelter, helping them thrive and become well-adjusted pets.. 🌟✨

🐾 Why Foster a shelter pet in need? Because it’s a gift the whole family can give!

Meet April, a sweet puppy who just needed a little guidance to shine. She’s one of 70 dogs that Miryam Chae, president of FONCAS, and her family have fostered over the years.

“I love this picture because it shows how the whole family plays a part in fostering,” says Miryam. “April’s time with us, especially bonding with our daughter, helped prepare her for life with her new family, who runs an in-home daycare. She’s thriving now! ✨

Meet Cheerio, the little dog with the biggest heart! 🐾

When Cheerio first came into the loving home of FONCAS President Miryam Chae and her family, he was shy, scared, and unsure of the world around him. But with patience, kindness, and love, Cheerio blossomed. 🌟

"Cheerio was incredibly shy and scared when we brought him home to foster," Miryam shares. "Now, he's living his best life, soaking up tons of attention and love." ❤️🐕

Fostering pets like Cheerio doesn’t just change their lives, it changes ours, too. It’s a chance to help them heal, grow, and prepare for a happy forever home. 🏡

We have an update on the 25 chihuahuas brought to Napa County Animal Shelter: thanks to your incredible support and the help of Marin Humane (9 dogs, 8 are already adopted), Joybound (12 dogs plus a cute bonded senior couple), and Sacramento SPCA (4 dogs), these pups have found safe places to land! 🐶❤️

Friends of Napa County Animal Shelter is addressing a critical need and using recent donations for spay/neuter services for the Animal Shelter. With help from Silverado Veterinary Hospital, we’re getting pets ready for adoption just in time for the holidays! Your generosity is helping us address the backlog of adoptable pets needing this essential surgery. Thank you for being a part of this lifesaving work.

🐾 Urgent Community Appeal 🐾

Sometime during the night of Thursday, December 5th, 25 Chihuahuas were abandoned on the side of the road near Calistoga. These terrified dogs were crammed into small crates and abandoned.

For the Napa County Animal Shelter, this crisis could not have come at a worse time. Every kennel is full. Every resource is stretched.

On behalf of the Napa County Animal Rescue community, FONCAS is asking for your help to ease this burden on the Napa County Animal Shelter.

Volunteer: Your hands and heart help ease stress for these vulnerable animals

Tiny’s happy update

Happy update from Tiny, formerly Big Boy Bob, who was adopted in early 2018. At the shelter, Tiny was shy and petrified! His devoted family has taken him to courage classes, taught him to swim and shown him the world doesn’t have to be scary. His forever family writes, “You might not recognize Tiny. His fear is gone. He is super bouncy and quick. He wrestles with other dogs, swims in the ocean, loves a game of high speed fetch, goes bonkers for sprinklers. He is animated and confident, and still the sweetest gentle giant, friendly to all. We spent the day at the Russian River... All dogs love him. All people love him. He is the BEST and I couldn't be more devoted to him, and couldn't be more grateful to have found him.“. Thank you for adopting and giving TIny a wonderful life! Salty and Peper

Salty and Pepper are looking for a home together. These two male Vietnamese Pot-bellied pigs love each other’s company. They enjoy making nests in the straw and laying side-by-side. They are vocal and will rub up against almost anything to scratch their sizable bellies. They are available for adoption at Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. Rocky

Little Rocky is one of hundreds of animals that arrive at the animal shelter each year needing medical attention. When costly diagnostic tests and surgery were needed for Rocky, the animal shelter came to us for support. Friends of Napa County Animal Shelter stepped in to help. We work together with the animal shelter to provide assistance for animals like Rocky, helping each animal have the best chance at a quick recovery and a long and happy life. Giving Tree at Cuvaison

Thank you to Cuvaison for choosing Friends of Napa County Animal Shelter as the recipient of their annual giving tree! In exchange for a donation to our organization, winery visitors were able to custom design each ornament and hang it on the tasting room holiday tree. Marlin needs a home

Marlin is the longest resident at Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center! He’s hoping this weekend’s Empty the Shelters event will help him find a forever home. Marlin is mellow guy who doesn’t require a lot of activity. He’s ok with cats, kids and likes other calm dogs. He loves to lay in the sun. He will need a family who will be consistent with his training. He’s good in the car and crate trained.
