Even on days without scheduled hikes, we still like to take the herds out for foraging sessions - which benefits them both mentally and physically! The “big goat” herd enjoyed the sunshine, the warm air - and especially the snacks today! 🐐🌿

We got to do some serious foraging this weekend on the “adventure hike” with our “big goats”. Marvin definitely isn’t complaining!

If you needed a smile today, here are a few from Eva! Pretty sure her smile will make just about anyone smile. One of these will be the next photo we use for her sticker at the sanctuary! Which is your favorite? #1, 2, 3 or 4?

The sunshine is FINALLY out! So, the perfect day to bring everyone out for a good foraging session. Not quite sure you’ll find happier goats or a happier goat guardian … I LOVE watching our goaties get their greens on!

Harley and Fynn, brothers, are the sweetest boys! They will give head hugs/rubs topeople they like - and Harley even gives little kisses! These boys are settling in so nicely with their new herd. We’re so happy that we get to be their forever home!

Well, we’ve been slacking on posts this week while we’re putting gardens in, cleaning up the property and all 39 goats saw the vet! So a few random pictures.

Everyone is vaccinated and healthy and we even have some new pain meds on board for Eva and Luna’s arthritis I am reservedly excited and optimistic that this will work for them.

Vaccination day is also a good day to go through your medical closet to make sure there isn’t anything expired. Well, let’s just say that we haven’t had to use many of the meds in our closet, so we got rid of lots! (last picture)

I’d say it was like throwing out money - but really, how grateful am I that I never had to use them! Of course, the medical closet is now restocked with new products in case of emergency. Let’s hope i throw those out unused when they expire too!

And for anyone who thinks I should have held onto@those meds as they most likely still had some efficacy - our vet made a point I’ll never forget: Why would you treat your goat with something that isn’t 100% going to work? You may think you are treating them, but if the drug/medicine isn’t working - you think you’re medicating them when you’re really not. Precious time is wasted that way. Not worth the risk!

For the love of goats...

As a young girl, Meagan Frederick dreamed of being Snow White.....the woodland princess who communicated with the animals and whom the animals adored. Later, that looked a little more like Dr. Doolittle, a little more practical. Mostly because she can't really sing like Snow White. Lacking the skill set for becoming a veterinarian, she informally became the rescuer of all living creatures in her path. Often because animals found their way to her. Kittens dropped from the undercarriage of trucks at a stoplight in front of her car, puppies were discovered roadside in threat of being poisoned, stray dogs laid at her feet on island vacations... not to mention mice, birds, fish. Oh, and goats.

They wandered up the driveway of now, Frederick Farm, just 7 years ago. Actually, HE (Marvin) wandered. For those of you who know Mabel, she is our former sheep finally living with sheep friends that don’t push her around at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary! But we digress. Now home to five very loved (and very spoiled) goats, Frederick Farm is dedicated to maintaining a home and sanctuary to as many goats (and chickens, and dogs) as is manageable (and that Meagan’s husband will tolerate without threat of divorce). No, she did not dream of having multiple goats. But once you meet them and get to know them (and know about the horrors of animal agriculture and why they are in need of rescue and sanctuary) I think you would know why Frederick Farm is now operational and growing! Fully embracing the endearing title, “Crazy Goat Lady”, Meagan welcomes you to come visit Frederick Farm and discover your inevitable love of all things GOAT.
